“India, are you ready to get back the lost treasure?!”
Introduction
India can get back this old lost treasure and can solve multiple problems like the emission of CO2 and saving fuel. Yes, if TESLA can make a great option, TATA also launches its own electric range of cars. As the government is planning to phase out petrol and diesel, electric cars will be mainstream in less than a decade.
Yes! Indeed it's a solution to lower the pollution but are Indians ready to approach and take this big step??
Preface
To begin with, India can get back the “Tram” running on its streets.
“Tram!????” Yes, you heard it right, a tram can serve to be a better option to save pollution or emission of gases and affordable for everyone. Best buses are fast options for today's life, yes agreed! but the question arises: ‘Is it environmentally friendly?’
List of Some Faqs: How Trams Can be Useful?
1. Trams are slow - They were removed because it slows down daily life but Mumbai buses already take the same time as trams due to traffic, and it anyway gets hectic.
If a bus runs 60kmph and a tram runs 40kmph the traffic eventually reduces the speed of the bus to 20kmph. What's wrong with slowing down life a bit? Check your emails, relax and meditate, and if you really are in a hurry take a cab.
2. Trams are comfortable - Trams take a lot of space and so do the buses. Britain made trams an efficient mode of transportation and made a lot of public transport media double-decker. The solution is everywhere, but we make excuses and live with it.
If foreign countries can create a solution to the problem of the population then why are we giving up? The cherry on top is, Trams have greater capacity than an ordinary bus has.
3. Indians are always in a hurry - Trams aren’t useful but countries like Germany, Britain, Belgium, China still use trams as their daily transport. These countries are way more successful than India is today. We are almost 20 years behind when it comes to growth.
If we can follow the foreign culture regarding Fashion, Lifestyle preferences then we can definitely build a Tram system just like they use every day and even today. But yet we choose to create an excuse and throw away the tram system in India; Kolkata still uses trams but soon they will discontinue.
4. An eco-friendly option - Let's discuss electric cars, they are super expensive right now, can an Indian common man afford to have one? You cannot find a charger in rural areas that easily and set up a tram system might create traffic but even construction of the Metro has created ruckus in our life.
Setting up a pantograph sliding which supplies electric power can work if setting up a charging station is undertaken by the government. Trams are attractive for tourists if updated and maintained regularly, and “is the cheapest option available” to travel for the common man.
5. Common people and their mindset - It's all about the mindset. All the peoples’ attention was diverted to trams that aren't use due to the increase in population, so they decided to discontinue the service.
The problem wasn't trams but poor family planning in India. India has financial centers like Mumbai, Bengaluru, Pune, and so on but we never focused on the small rural areas, what we lack is a holistic approach.
Due to this people migrated to cities and now it's chaotic. Trams can even be set up in rural areas and their usage can be expanded to help small areas connect each other. Where even today Msrtc buses don't provide service in small rural areas.
Consequently, people are forced to buy vehicles that work on fuel, and that eventually is hazardous.
Just as the case study made in Melbourne, the automobile clubs and bus lobbies campaigned to get rid of the Tram system. Something similar happened in India and the whole system of Trams was taken down.

6. Will people choose to travel by tram again? - Definitely! People who are interested in the idea of saving the environment will surely do so. The youth who come from a middle-class background can afford to travel through trams because the fare is cheap just like the best buses but, the plus point is it’s eco-friendly.
7. Sustainability - Sustainability is an umbrella term that is on the forefront and even businesses are expanding under this term to reduce ecological risk. Then why not build a whole new system and get the trams back on track!!
We already have a sustainable option. Are we ready to accept it all over again? A normal car produces 3 times more CO2 than traveling by tram.
8. Tourism - By accepting the tram system again could create a great impact on foreign tourists. It can give a feeling of home and traveling through one and sightseeing the streets of India through large open windows of trams.
Conclusion
“Trams are beauty & sustainability all in one!”
Changing a mindset isn't easy and accepting something all over after a big span of time is not easy either but when sustainability and affordable traveling combine together it creates a greater impact on the economy and ecology.
If we accept the myth that trams aren't useful, then we can definitely accept the fact trams are the best modes of transportation.
