I think success is not only about work, but it’s also mainly about personal life as well. If you’re a successful business person and you failed to handle your personal life, then you’re not successful.

Tell us about your background and journey.

Coming from Arabian background to India, I was fascinated with the Indian culture. I’m from Yemen and I studied Languages in Aden for my undergraduate. I actually wanted to study in India and explore it, but I was lost in Delhi when I fell in love with my husband and then I decided to live here and have a family with my beloved husband.

I studied MA in Linguistics at JNU, but I’ve always worked in blogging where I found a space for me to present and expand my beauty and fashion talents.

What led you to start your page on Instagram and what is it about?

As I mentioned earlier, I always had a passion for blogging and writing and that developed into doing makeup tutorials on YouTube and therefore having an Instagram page was essential for me to present my job to wider audiences.

My page is about makeup, beauty, fashion and a space for me to share my opinion and support ladies all over the world to chase their dreams and to achieve what they aspire for.

How would you distinguish the term blogger from an influencer?

If you are a blogger you post something you believe is cool and people would like it, you are purely driven by your own thoughts, however, if your motivation comes from promoting a brand or product, gaining followers and likes on social media or driving engagement, you’re considered an influencer.

Is it financially sustainable to be an influencer today?

I can’t give you a yes or no answer to this question! For other people it might be, however, for me, I believe one should have more than one source of income.

I do a full-time job, although I make a considerable amount of money from my work as an influencer, I’d always try my best not to depend financially merely on what I gain from social media.

What do you think influences consumer behaviour?

I believe that there are four psychological factors that influence consumer behaviour: Motivation, perception, learning, and attitude or belief system

Motivation is to understand how to motivate your customer. The way your target customer perceives the world or learns about your product can also influence their behaviour. Finally, belief systems have the ability to influence all of the above.

What is your idea of success or your mantra in life?

I think that success is hugely related to your peace of mind. At a certain point, I may look at myself in the mirror and think that I’ve achieved nothing whilst other people would think of me as one of the most successful people.

On other occasions, I would be very satisfied with what I have achieved because my mind is at peace. I’m successful when I’m honest to my audience and I do not prompt for a product if I don’t believe in it’s worth, I’m successful when I can do a full-time job and still cope with my familial life taking care of my husband and son, I’m successful when I’m always supportive to my family in Yemen and when I’m always there when my friends needed me.

I think success is not only about work, but it’s also mainly about personal life as well. If you’re a successful business person and you failed to handle your personal life, then you’re not successful.

How can someone become a successful social media influencer?

By being honest to themselves and to their audience and just simply being yourself, you don’t need to pretend anything you’re not to be a successful social media influencer, people will love you for what you are.

Which is your favourite book and why?

101 Zen Stories is my favourite book of all time. Zen masters have used stories or paradoxical riddles, to help their students realize their true nature. It is my favourite as it also helps me to realise my own true nature.
