Anuvrith Shetty - If I Can Make a Person Who’s Had a Pretty Bad Day Laugh through My Videos, That Would Be More than Enough for Me (Comedian, India)

Comedy is my forte, so, I love producing it the most. Specifically, I prefer working on sarcasm, as it is a truly underrated sub-genre and is really enjoyable once you get the hang of it

1. How and when did you choose comedy as a career?

Generally, I'm a restless guy and being stuck in the same place for months during lockdown wasn't going to work for me.

So, I turned to making funny videos on Instagram by the page name ANUVRITH JOKING in my regional language Kannada which would be relatable to students just like me, who would on a daily basis experience atleast one of the scenarios I portray.

I didn't have to make up a lot of content since I experienced most of the situations pre-covid and some during the lockdown.

2. What type of content do you enjoy producing the most and is the most challenging?

Comedy is my forte, so, I love producing it the most. Specifically, I prefer working on sarcasm, as it is a truly underrated sub-genre and is really enjoyable once you get the hang of it.

Dark humour is another one of my favourite sub-genres, but it's really hard to produce because not a lot of people connect to it and it ends up triggering a lot of people, which doesn't seem to me like a worthy trade-off.

3. Do you prefer digital as a medium or do you enjoy doing live gigs more and why?

I prefer the digital medium. I started my comic career through YouTube and Instagram and hence it has been the only way I've created and shared my content. It also helps a lot that I can connect with my audience on the fly by going live.

I haven't had the chance perform live gigs due to the pandemic, but I would love to perform one, once regulations have been relaxed.

4. What impact do you want to make in this world?

I'm a simple man with simple ambitions. If I can make a person who's had a pretty bad day laugh through my videos, that would be more than enough for me.

Impact doens't always have to be a huge change in the world. Making a person's day is the impact I intend to make on this world.

5. Which is your favourite book and why?

My favourite book is animal farm by George Orwell. Too much power and absolutely no accountability can bring the worst out of the best of people and even a society that strives for equality will never truly work and a ruling class will always take over.

The fact that Orwell was able to demonstrate all of this while also being funny, made me love this book.
