Clarice - In 2017, I Quit My Job And Flew To New Zealand For A Working Holiday And That’s Where Everything Began (Influencer, Singapore)

The passion and hard work you put into creating your content may not be seen and appreciated by others, but still do it with every bit of passion and hard work anyway.

1. Tell us about your background and journey.

When I graduated with my degree (in Banking & Finance), I got a job in the bank and it didn’t take me long to realise this wasn’t what I was interested in doing for the rest of my life. As a person that loves to travel a lot, I moved on to try out the travel industry instead and really enjoyed it.

My dream is to be able to travel and earn money at the same time. In 2017, I quit my job and flew to New Zealand for a working holiday and that’s where everything began.

I decided to start a new Instagram account just for my travel photos and in order to be a little special, I decided I will buy a onesie and take photos in my onesie at all the famous places. Inspired by my favourite Roald Dahl quote of all time, “And above all, watch with glittering eyes the whole world around you because the greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely places.

Those who don't believe in magic will never find it.” - I decided to pick a unicorn onesie because unicorns are magical creatures that people don’t believe exist. I want to be a representation that anything can happen as long as you believe in it.

2. How and where do you find inspiration to churn out content?

Tik Tok, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, basically any social media channels. I love to take inspiration from other content creators and then come up with my own version in my own style.

3. How would you go about doing research for a new piece of content?

The internet of course!

4. What does your typical day look like?

Apart from being a content creator on Instagram, I run a Facebook Ads agency, so I’d be helping my clients create content for their ads. And then I’d be creating content for my own Instagram/TikTok etc.

Sometimes, I go for photoshoots. And during my free time, I love to play some mobile games. Currently with the Covid situation, I spend most of my time at home as I am unable to travel.

5. What is the most challenging thing about your work?

Constantly having to come up with fresh and new ideas for content. Sometimes this can be a bit overwhelming because I always strive for the best, so I might stress myself out trying to come up with great content.

6. What does your work aim to say?

I think for my Instagram wise, the message I want to put across is that I want to inspire people not to be afraid to be different, to stand out from the crowd, to want something that everybody around you may not want, to just be yourself. Just like sometimes, when I go around doing photoshoots in my unicorn onesie.

And I also like to find really special and colourful clothes for my photoshoots because I want to showcase something that is different from the norm.

7. What’s your philosophy about what makes content great?

The passion and hard work you put into creating your content may not be seen and appreciated by others, but still do it with every bit of passion and hard work anyway. And always do what makes you happy.

8. What is the common misconception people have about what you do?

That it’s easy. It's really great to get sponsored so much free stuff “just by posting on social media”. That we’re only good at looking pretty in photos and nothing else.

9. What is your long term plan/ future plans ?

My dream is to create travel content but I will have to wait for the Covid situation to be over. Right now I will focus on growing my own Facebook ads agency so I can save up more money for my future travels.

10. Which is your favourite book and why?

I don’t really read right now. I read a lot when I was younger and I think I stopped quite some time ago because I prefer to consume articles and content online instead of reading.
