About the Director

Guy Stuart Ritchie is a British film director, producer, screenwriter, and businessman. His work includes British gangster films, and the Sherlock Holmes films starring Robert Downey Jr...
He directed a short film in 1995, ‘The Hard Case’, followed by the crime comedy, ‘Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (1998), his feature-length directorial debut. He soon gained recognition with his second film, ‘Snatch (2000)’, which also found critical and commercial success. Following Snatch, Ritchie directed ‘Swept Away (2002)’, a critically panned box-office bomb starring Madonna, to whom Ritchie was married between 2000 and 2008.
In 2009 and 2011, he directed two box-office hits, Sherlock Holmes and its sequel, ‘Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows’, respectively. The former was nominated for Academy Awards in Best Original Score and Best Art Direction.
His other directed motion pictures are ‘The Man From U.N.C.L.E. (2015)’, which is a remake of a 1960 spy series, ‘King Arthur: Legend of the Sword (2017)’ and the live-action adaptation of Disney's ‘Aladdin’ (2019).
Aladdin earned more than $1 billion worldwide, becoming one of the highest-grossing films in 2019, and the 34th highest-grossing film of all time during its theatrical run. In 2020, he returned to crime comedy with ‘The Gentlemen (2019)’, which was a mostly well-received and commercial success. In 2021, he directed Jason Statham in the action film ‘Wrath of Man’.
About the Movie
Wrath of Man was released in many countries on April 22, 2021, and in the United States, it was released on May 7,2021. The film received mixed reviews from critics and its audience due to the dialogues and slow pace although it was praised for its action sequences.
The movie stars Jason Statham, Holt McCallany, Scott Eastwood, Jeffery Donovan, Andy Garcia, Eli Brown, Josh Hartnett, Chris Reily, Eddie Marsan, DeObia Oparei, etc. The film was most awaited by fans of Guy Ritchie’s direction especially after his movie ‘The Gentlemen’ in 2019, the theme of which was also revenge.
Promising Aspects of the Movie
“I can do it in two weeks what you only wish you could do in 20 years.” (H)
1. If you have watched Statham’s movies ‘The Mechanic’, ‘The Transporter’, etc. you would be a big fan of his by now. Though his movies may follow the same pattern of being predictable, they don’t fail to impress the audience with his spectacular performance and action scenes, which is why he has attained the title and popularity where he stands now. Hence, a point here to his cold-blooded, wild, crazy, and mysterious acting.
2. The movie throughout provides a fantastic, punchy, thrilling, and suspenseful ride with a fairly straightforward storyline of revenge and enough primal entertainment and deserves a point here.
3. On the other hand, Scott Eastwood does well too. He presents a character of an angry man who wants the robbed money all to himself, hence, fitting right into the frame.
4. Overall, the action sequences provide genuine thrills and play to the complete game of settling the score with an intriguing structure and backstory playing hand-in-hand.
Personal Verdict
The movie genuinely isn’t very great and unexpected of the direction by Ritchie. It falters at many aspects such as a very predictable storyline, predictable scenes, a very satisfying final blow with a culminating kill scene full of vengeance.

So, it does have a few really good stuff, in addition, Jason’s acting is definitely worth watching and that is probably my reason for 'Wrath of Man' earning its keep. You could go ahead and give it a watch but don’t have expectations from the plot because the film is devoid of any character developments.
The Bottom Line
Ritchie has made a fair choice of not entangling the storyline with too many threads to a common vengeful plot but it could have been even better than making it utterly foreseeable.
My ratings for the movie - 2.8 on 5
