I found myself successful when I was able to overcome common myths and help people believe in themselves because I truly believe "When I can, anyone can"
1. Tell us more about yourself and your profession.
Well my name is Nishi Mavani and I am a Fitness Blogger and a You tuber from
Chennai. I started my fitness blog Nishfit to share my weight loss journey with the world. Back in the year 2019, I was frustrated with all the weight that I had gained and I had no guidance from where to start and what to eat to start losing the weight. How could I? I was just a normal person like all of you who
loves eating and cannot survive on soups and salads. But you know what? I achieved my goal of busting all these weight loss myths. A transformation in me took place that changed my life forever and my outlook towards Fitness.

2. What is your Fitness Mantra?
Honestly, there are no shortcut diets or Magic Drinks that work for weight loss. The only three things that work and are also my Fitness Mantra are –
- Patience
- Consistency
- Dedication
3. What are some of the major misconceptions about diets and exercises?
There are so many clients that come to me with the same misconceptions about losing weight –
- Losing weight from a specific part of the body is also called spot reduction. This is one of the biggest myths that exist in this industry. Spot reduction is not possible! Concentrate on overall body fat percentage and being in an overall calorie deficit.
- Eating Carbs makes you fat! No foods are good or bad. Only when you are on a Calorie Surplus Diet will you gain weight. Not Roti or rice or any other food that can magically make you fat. I enjoyed my Carbs at night and still lost weight.
- Deprive yourself from eating all your favourite foods if you want to lose weight. Moderation is the key and you need to strike a good balance between eating healthy and eating out. You cannot deprive yourself of eating what you like throughout your life.
- You NEED to exercise all seven days a week. You don’t have to exercise every day in a week to lose weight! 4-5 times a week is good enough. But just try to be consistent for those 4-5 times you decide to exercise. Your body also needs rest and recovery time.
- Cardio is the only form of exercise that will help you in losing weight! No this is a very big misconception. Be active throughout the day and just try to include any form of activity it can be exercise, Walking, Dancing, Swimming, Badminton anything! Do what works for you.
4. How can one maintain a healthy lifestyle?
Start with making small lifestyle changes and you will see that these changes will
ultimately become a part of your daily routine! Changes in the form of –

- Most importantly set a positive mindset and believe in yourself!
- Walk for short distances instead of using your bike or car.
- Take the stairs and avoid the elevator.
- Try to stay active in the day by doing some household chores like helping your mom or keeping the house clean or just moving around the house.
- Have Balanced Meals and include all food groups.
- A good sleep cycle is very important and sleeps for at least 7-8.
- Try to incorporate some form of Physical Activity at least 4-5 times a week.
- Stay hydrated and drink lots of water.
5. How can one build a successful career in your field?
Like all other fields, there are hundreds and thousands of Professionals in the
Fitness Field. I have just started my career in this field a few months back but in
these few months, one thing I am sure about is People relate to personal stories
and journeys. People don’t want fake promises but they want to see results they
want to see testimonials of existing clients.

There are so many people out there to give you suggestions but what people
want is a personal touch. If you are someone who people are able to relate to who people feel they can approach personally and share their problems and someone who is genuine and has shown results and testimonials then there is no looking back in this field. And yes continuous research in this field is the key to success. You are nothing without knowledge.
6. What is one piece of advice you would like to give someone who wishes to lose weight?
My only piece of advice to anyone who wishes to lose weight is to give your body the required time to start seeing results and to never give up no matter what because once you start seeing results that will be your biggest motivation to lose weight. But to see results a lot of patience and consistency will be required.
The journey of weight loss is going to be a journey of ups and downs. There will be days when your efforts will show there will also be days when your efforts won’t show! Those days will be your biggest testing times and once you overcome this hurdle there can be no one that can come between your journey! Start small set achievable targets, celebrate small victories and enjoy the process of losing weight.
7. How do diets and exercise contribute to overall well-being and happiness?
In our busy lifestyle, we are constantly on a move in a race trying to achieve something or the other and in these times we often forget about ourselves and how important diet and exercise are for our well-being and happiness. In fact, when I was on my weight loss journey I used to work at a bank and could hardly find time to exercise! But you know what? Instead of finding excuses I anyway found time for myself and my body and finished my workout even if it was for 15-20 minutes.
We are working for our bosses, for our families for our friends but when will we ever do something for our well-being? Make fitness your friend and trust me it will never ditch you. Exercise and diet have now become a part of my daily routine it is something that I cannot imagine my day without.
For me, exercise is my stress buster and it can be one of the best things you do for yourself. Now when I eat healthily I don’t even feel I am on a diet In fact if I cheat on a regular day I feel something is not in place. That’s how Diet and exercise have become so important to me. So yes if you want to gift yourself a healthy body and a happy and peaceful mind Diet and exercise are the keys to your locks.
