Terry Lashley - Create! Don't Worry About Perfection, Create! (Content Creator, United States)

Also, take your content seriously. I see my content as an extension of myself and my family. I guard and protect my brand as I guard and protect my 4 girls Ayumi Lashley, Yuri, Zoe, and Skye.

1. Tell us about your background and journey.

I was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, the second oldest of six brothers and sisters. I joined the military very young, at 18 years old and spent the following 15 years in the Army.

I’ve travelled the world on multiple combat and peace deployments. My experiences travelling the world has helped me learn the value of life. I believe it's family, its love, its kindness, and it's all about enjoying your life experience.

While finishing college after leaving the military my wife and I decided to follow our passion for creating content. It started with family videos and grew into over 700K followers and subscribers.

My wife and I found a way to share our values and beliefs with the world.

2. When did you first decide that you wanted to create content and how did you start?

It was during my senior year in college. My wife and I decided to start a Youtube channel called Lashley Life. My wife and I are full of love and energy and we wanted to share that energy beyond our circle of friends.

3. Is content creation a financially sustainable career?

Yes, if you approach content creation with the same mindset as creating a product then you can create a marketable brand. Once your brand is established you can surely monetize it in various ways.

4. Who is your favourite creator and why?

I have several favourites! There is a Youtube couple named Slice and Rice that is one of our inspirations. But, right now @itsthescotts would be at the top of my list.

They are fellow TikTok’rs that operate in our niche. Their content is funny, clean, and family-friendly. But most of all, their content is genuine and relatable.

I like to believe my content follows that same path.

5. How and where do you find inspiration to churn out content?

The “When” is always. Morning noon and night funny things happen in our everyday life. When things occur that move my emotions in any direction I take mental notes.

A video is born. We have also begun to record our life as a family of influencers which has been a very eventful experience lol.

6. What does your typical day look like?

I wake up early to take our girls to school. We have three beautiful girls Yuri, Zoe, and Skye. Sometimes we have very long mornings because we have two neurodivergent children.

One being autistic, and another with ADHD. After taking the kids to school my wife and I usually sit down and try to plan our day or week depending on the moment.

After we set our goals we start executing with the intention of getting as much done as possible before we get the kids.

When the children are not home, we can focus on relationship-focused content and regular family matters. When they are home we try to include them in the content creating process.

Although, that can be challenging because our kids are not always in the mood to film. And when they are not in the mood we don't force them. We don’t believe in making that choice for them.

7. Which is your favourite book and why?

The Law of Attraction, because I am a firm believer in controlling my thoughts to determine my outcome. I believe we are what and who we think we are.

Even more so, we can't be more than we think we are because we can not grow beyond our negative thoughts.

8. What piece of advice would you like to give to future and aspiring creators?

Create! Don't worry about perfection, Create! Making content takes creativity, and there is a wide range of talent in this field.

But it's also like riding a bike or learning to swim, you won't learn or get better at it unless you're doing it constantly. Also, take your content seriously.

I see my content as an extension of myself and my family. I guard and protect my brand as I guard and protect my 4 girls Ayumi Lashley, Yuri, Zoe, and Skye.
