Synopsis - Spoiler Alert!

Behind Her Eyes is a supernatural psychological thriller based on the 2017 novel of the same title by Sarah Pinborough. The series premiered on Netflix on 17 February 2021. It is a psychological thriller that is going to have you on the edge throughout the six episodes.

What keeps you engrossed are the dialogues, twists, and the very unique storyline. The plot is engaging and surprising. “Behind your eyes” begins as a chilly and tense story of three people keeping secrets and using power to show dominance.

Personal Verdict

One thing we notice and cannot ignore is that till the last episode, we can never really figure out why the characters are the way they are. They are suspicious, cold and some, heartless. But the one thing each character has in common is that they are willing to do anything for love.

The toxic relationship between David and Adele brings troubles to all. We might get confused and impatient midway, but the ending will definitely have your minds blown. The ending is difficult and painful to endure and might leave you uncomfortable but is the one that you never saw coming.

The episodes keep you hooked until the last drastic revelation. The story just gets more complicated each time you attempt to come ahead and solve it. Adele is the most mysterious character. She is a lonely and cold housemaker married to her love, David, who is a psychiatrist.

There is Rob, Adele’s best friend. All hell breaks loose when Adele finds out about her husband’s affair with the receptionist, Louise. Louise is perfect, warm, and charming. Having to deal with Adele’s psychotic behavior, Lousie becomes David’s safe space. This sparks more complications between David and his wife, Adele. Although their relationship faces a lot of ups and downs, they tried to appear as normal as they could.

The supernatural element in the plot keeps the depth alive. Adele’s time in rehab allowed her to practice the art of floating her soul out of her body to keep tabs on her loved ones. She is possessive and dominating, She helps Louise overcome her terrific nightmares but everything just brings more trouble for her.

Rob is the addict who falls in love with Adele and her rich and fascinating life. He wants everything that she has -a partner, a big house, and all her connections. He didn’t want to go back to his pathetic life. The end didn’t make sense at all at first, but if we start replaying the incidents, we realize that it was always in front of us.

Adele wasn’t Adele at all, it was Rob who floated his soul inside her body to live her life. We notice that David was always suspicious of the change but he couldn’t really figure it out because after all it was still Adele’s body but Rob’s soul.

Just like David, Louise falls into the trap. When Rob learns that David loves Lousie and that he might lose him forever, he transports himself into Louise”s body yet again. It appears scary but once you are watching it, nothing is stopping you.

The Bottom Line

The projections of nightmares and supernatural elements are scary but interesting to watch. At the end of the series, the bone-chilling smile of Louise Rob reveals all the answers to any questions we had. The psychosexual thriller has an engaging soundtrack.

It is hard to tell who is sane and who is not but the series is beautifully made and wonderfully acted. The title has always given us the biggest hint, but the complicated scenes created all the fog. Lastly, it is a well-structured and attractive story.

Give it a try because it is nothing like you have been watching!
