If I had to pour my heart out and debate further on the mentioned topic, then I strongly believe that motivation does play a vital role but it won’t make a difference until and unless we are willing to work upon ourselves, upon our dreams.
It is rightly said, dreams won’t work unless you do and so is the case with motivation.
Types of motivation
There are mainly two types of deriving motivation under which there are innumerable ways to stay motivated:
- Intrusive motivation: It is the kind of motivation that is derived from within and comes from the inside.
For example, A drive/feeling to work harder to achieve your ambitions.
- Extrusive motivation: It is the kind of motivation that is derived from the sources present outside.
For example: Watching motivational videos, listening to motivational music etc.
The above mentioned doesn't need to give you the drive to strive.
Other sources of motivation:
External sources including incentives: As it is self-explanatory, external sources such as watching positive videos, listening to motivational music and setting a target and rewarding yourself after achieving it.
Not paying attention to losses: It is easier said than done and it is very difficult to practice this. Don’t hold on to a loss, try to ignore the fact as much as you can instead of clinging on to it.
Intrinsic motivation: Bring positive changes in your life, wake up early, have a balanced diet and balanced routine. It will directly derive motivation from within and keep you motivated for the entire day.
Having a positive mindset: Having a positive mindset is not only limited to your approach of viewing different types of situations but having a different perspective towards life, basically to not give up on your dreams before you even start, thinking and making scenarios in your head which might not even arise.
Validation: Every time you achieve something no matter how tiny it is, no matter how much hard work has been put into it, praise yourself. Be there for yourself even when no one is.
Change is a tedious process that doesn’t happen overnight and so is motivation. You have to work hard day and night to bring a change in your lifestyle.
A change might be good or bad but you’re the writer of your own book, you get to decide what happens next or how every situation should mould in your life.
Some people work hard day and night for years and still don’t achieve their desired goals but on the other hand, some people achieve success in a few days and many people lose their motivation in between.
Once a human being loses his/her motivation then it is very difficult to bring a change. So, if we have to answer the question that if motivation is enough for us to change then maybe it’s not enough but it is surely interrelated.
Change heavily depends on the behaviour of an individual and his/her perspective towards life.
What to do if nothing motivates you?
There is still a high possibility that even after trying hard, nothing motivates you and you have been demotivated because of it for quite some time. You don’t need to lose hope, get up and try out a few of the steps mentioned below!
- Get out of bed and dress up well, dressing up nicely will bring out a positive change in you.
- Go out for a jog and listen to some positive music alongside.
- Try socializing as much as you can, a good conversation with good laughter never fails to bring out the best in you.
- Don’t overburden yourself. If you do so, you’ll waste your time thinking about how to manage time between your activities and being unproductive will lead to demotivation.
- Maintain a timetable and stick to a routine.
- Having a healthy sleep cycle and getting enough sleep daily.
Motivation is not something that you can’t get forcefully. You have to try out different methods to stay motivated and once you find your way, hold on to it and achieve everything you have always aimed for!
