Prem Bhavsar - Art Involves Passion and Willingness to Do Art (Artist - India)

If you do art by heart you can achieve heights. Never think of finances. Follow your passion. For an artist you have to observe everything and respect the art and the artist.

1. Tell us more about your background and journey.

I was born in Thane in an artist family. I did my schooling from Mumbai and returned to Thane. I am a traditional artist. I never learnt art from any University. In the beginning, I used to see my father and learnt from him.

My father never wanted me to become an artist, he wanted me to  be an architect and my mother wanted me to be a doctor. But, I was firm on my decision of becoming an artist so here I am as an artist. I used to sit in Mumbai museum for hours, observe the nature and then paint it. I also have some knowledge of Ayurveda and Yoga since my childhood.

I believe in human philosophy and I work on that basis. I am 64 years old and I really wanted to do an exhibition in India.

2. When did you decide you wanted to be an artist?

I was 5 years old, when I read about Michelangelo. Michelangelo was from an artist family after reading about his life and journey I have decided to go in the same field.

When I was a kid, I have written “I want to become best artist in the whole world” on a paper. I used to keep it with me all the time. I used to see it every morning.

3. Is it a financially stable career?

Anyone who has the objective of earning money should not go with this profession. Art is like love. We never associate love with finance.

4. Who is your favorite painter/artist and why?

Michelangelo is my favorite artist. He was a keen observer and a great sculptural. I also wanted to be a sculptural but due to lack of space I wasn’t able to do that.

5. What is your inspiration for creating art?

There was a chapter in my English Reader book about Michelangelo. I was in 3rd class. I get inspired by it.

6. What piece of advice would you like to give to future aspiring artists?

If you do art by heart you can achieve heights. Never think of finances. Follow your passion. For an artist you have to observe everything and respect the art and the artist.

7. Which is your favorite book and why?

There is a book in Marathi of Sahe guruji ‘Shyamchi Aai’. It described about humanity and human behavior. I have read many books about artist. There are various qualities in an artist.
