Know Everything About Mangalyaan Mission: Turning Point in India’s Space Program

The Indian Space Research Organisation(ISRO) was the fourth Organisation that had gone to Mars. After America, Russia and European India was the first countries that were going to Mars. And India was the first country to visit Mars with just one attempt. The US attempts 4 times to visit Mars, Russia attempts 8 times and China is trying to reach Mars.

The Mars mission of India is called MOM(Mars Orbiter Mission) and in Hindi, it is called Mangalyaan mission. The mission was started on 5 November 2013 when ISRO launched PSLV from Satish Dhawan Space Center, Sriharikota and the mission was successful on 23 September 2014 when the orbiter was completely landed on Mars land.

While India was feeling proud when this news came that India successfully went to Mars with one attempt. No one thought that India had gone to Mars with its first attempt. There was hard work of 17 thousand Scientists and Engineers to make the Mars mission successful. And the fact is that India has used a different technique to reach Mars.

India’s done this mission with the least amount of Budget

The Budget of the Mars mission is 450 crore Indian rupees and if we compare this budget to America’s Mars mission budget, it is around 6 thousand crore Indian rupees, 10 times bigger than the ISRO budget. And India reaches Mars with this amount of Budget and America attempts many times to reach Mars with their budget.

ISRO had done an impossible task of reaching Mars with the first attempt and even on a low budget ISRO also uses a small space vehicle for this mission which is called PSLV 49(Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle) and is also used on Chandrayaan 1 mission in 2008 and also in that mission India is the first country who find water on Moon. PSLV is a small satellite vehicle that ISRO uses for its satellite launches and for small lunar missions.

ISRO took 2013 year to launch the MOM mission

The main question that comes to mind is why ISRO took the 2013 year to launch the Mangalyaan mission? So, it is because every planet is in series, there is one point when the planets will be close to each other, and in the case of Earth and Mars, Mars is closest to Earth in 2014 according to the Earth calendar which is 6 crore km.

If India misses a chance to launch for Mars mission then India will have to wait for 3 years when Mars is close to planet Earth. And even though India launched its mission it took almost one year to reach Mars so, India had to launch PSLV one year ago.

PM Narendra Modi congratulated ISRO Scientists and Engineers

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had come to ISRO headquarters to see the status of the Mars mission and when this mission got successful Prime Minister Narendra congratulated ISRO chairman DR. K Radhakrishan and whole members of ISRO who were involved in this mission. He also explains that if we go 1 kilometer to another place by Auto then it takes 10 rupees because it's fuel and the PSLV rocket took only 7 rupees per kilometer to go to Mars.

The ISRO also uses a different technique to go to Mars and it is that the ISRO will move a PSLV rocket into Indian space and then rotate it off its fuel and slow its speed.

Then it will complete its first round in space then the fuel and speed are on for some time. In the final round, the speed will become fast and when it comes to the space of Mars it will rotate to the atmosphere of Mars.

The ISRO has also decided that they would also launch Mangalyaan 2 mission after the success of the Mangalyaan 1 mission. In Mangalyaan 2 mission other items would also be included. In the first mission, it would only carry an orbiter which is round in the atmosphere of Mars but in Mangalyaan 2 mission there would also include a lander and rover.

Like in Chandrayaan 2 mission 3 things were included Lander, Rover, and Orbiter, same in Mangalyaan 2 mission these things will be there. The movie Mission Mangal was based on the Mangalyaan mission in which Akshay Kumar and Vidya Balan played the lead role of Scientists. There were also supporting actors and Actresses in the movie like Taapsee Pannu, Sonakshi Sinha, Sharman Joshi, etc.
