If you can do it long enough without losing patience, you will get better at it and be able to create a following.
1. Tell us about your background and journey.
I am a simple guy from an upper-middle-class family but I never wanted to get trapped in a monotonous life of 9-5. Right after I finished my 12th, while I continued to study further I also kept experimenting with different business ideas and tried to learn about various industries.
During these 3 years of my Bachelors of Commerce (Honours). I tried the food business, clothing industry, footwear industry, import-export and many more. Still, I understood one thing entertainment will be the one industry in future where people will spend most of their life. Hence I went to Mumbai and started this journey of the understanding entertainment business.
2. When did you first decide that you wanted to create content and how did you start?
I started playing games during lockdown with my friends and later found the discord app as a way to connect with more players. This led me to connect with many people including some YouTubers and professional content creators.
As the lockdown kept us at home, this became my only thing in the evenings. I have a background in the entertainment industry because of which I was already comfortable with cameras. And as I kept playing with some YouTubers, people started to push me as well to start creating content and live streaming on youtube.
3. Is vlogging and YouTube content creation a financially sustainable career?
Simply put, Yes it is. There is a lot of struggle and a great chance of failure but that is in every business. Even in a job, you get a good salary only after you dedicate years to it. To make content creation a stable source of income, one has to give constant effort and be patient. If you can do it long enough without losing patience, you will get better at it and be able to create a following.
4. Who is your favourite creator and why?
Although Mr beast is the one person who has really cracked the code of this industry, in India I think Tanmay Bhat is the one person who has figured out the best way to make money from this. He is not the one with the most subscribers but still is the most focused person currently active.
5. How and where do you find inspiration to churn out content?
Inspiration is all around us. Everything that makes me happy, I try to find a way to share that with my audience through my content. If we can pass on that genuine feeling without any other motives, I think we can never run out of content.
6. What piece of advice would you like to give to future and aspiring creators?
I might not be the best person to advise on content creation as a career because my motive was always to enjoy myself and not actually create a business. But still, things that I have learnt doing this are to be patient, and stay focused on content and not numbers. Don't follow others or copy someone or get jealous of their success, just keep doing what you like because if you are not happily creating content, your audience will not reciprocate either.
