Graphene: A Highly Useful Yet Obscure Material

In the last decade all the tech enthusiasts, tech lovers and scientists and everyone is talking about a material called graphene. Most of us may not have heard about it but it was the one in all over the tech world. People believed there would be no water crisis any more, no environment pollution, glowing walls and many more thanks to Graphene.

History Of Graphene:

Graphene was founded by Andre Geim and Konstantin Novoselov at the University of Manchester. They found it while experimenting on graphite. They got the Nobel Prize in 2010 for their contribution. Graphene has exceptional high strength, good heat and electric conductivity.

Graphene is used in every industry:

  • It has ultimate potential for integration.
  • It may be used to create very light objects.
  • It is mixed with rubber to produce objects which have resistance to protect rubber properties mainly in use in the space industry.
  • In the tech world graphene can be used in semiconductor, transistors mainly in electronic gadgets like mobiles laptops, foldable screens etc.
  • It can be used to filter ocean water to drinking water and cleaning nuclear waste.
What happened to Graphene?

All thought that graphene can change the world completely, like plastic before. People thought plastics were the solution for problems that time. Then where is graphene? Why we are not seeing it anywhere?  Graphene didn’t go anywhere; it is still in the R & D stage in many MNC. People exaggerated things like we did with flying cars.

There is no such demand or cause to produce products with graphene because it is costly to produce the products, it requires a lot of new technology and capital to build. Present technology is good for the present situation.
