The story is set between two protagonists named, Jhanvi and Ashray. Jhanvi is a budding social media influencer, who has a perception that perfection is everything. The constant drive of perfectionism makes her obsessed towards her reel life which is her followers, posts and social lifestyles. This reel life of hers suppresses her real life where she forgets what life is and how to live in the present, which leads to many unpleasant things and finds solace in drugs and intoxications.

The other side is the story of Ashray, who is an orphan brought up by her stepmother, Akshita as her son. His ultimate motive in his life is to provide a stable life for his mother in return for all the love and affection that she has bestowed on him. He takes up a job. He dreams of owning a furnished home, where he plans to settle down. During a visit to a Music festival, he meets Sakshi and falls in love with her. When everything seems to go perfect, Sakshi ends the relationship. With the back of his maa and his best friend, Rishi he deals with it until one day his mother faces a heart- attack which leads to her demise. This breaks Ashray to the core and he starts getting a panic attack. Rishi advises him to visit a psychiatrist.

Back to Jhanvi, she is found unconscious in her flat due to the dosage of pills. Her friend Kavya admits her to the hospital and later is convinced to take up professional help, where she is diagnosed with an addictive personality disorder.

During one of the visits to the psychiatrists, Ashray comes across Jhanvi. Both meet and share their pains of trials and become each other's support. Both of them work together to fight their battles.

The book touches upon the sensitive aspect of today's reality. It discusses social media addiction, a life of an influencer, mental health and self-acceptance. It teaches you to embrace highs and lows with equal energy. The book explores the concept of self-love and mental health. It conveys the message through the story of Jhanvi and Ashray, where they fight with darkness and heal each other.

This book is subtle, lightweight and for those who are looking for hope, light and recovery. It gives a new meaning to hope. It symbolises how ‘hope’ can change your life to a better space.

Famous Quotes

I thought tears would come, but they didn’t, they couldn’t, because perfection demanded that they stay buried deep inside of me

… traffic congested the streets. They reflected the congested thoughts in my mind.

…. surrounding myself with good people, people who lifted me instead of judging me, I could shine through the darkness that society emitted so readily.

The Bottom Line

Self-love and the realisation of the same are necessary. One should understand that there is nothing to be ashamed of to ask for help. Having people like Rishi and Kavya as friends is rarely witnessed and they both become the hope of light in the darkness. The journey of Ashray and Jhanvi conveys a strong message of embracing highs and lows and facing with determination.
