About the Director

Anand Tiwari is an actor, writer, producer, and director. He is the assistant director of Anurag Basu's Barfi ( 2012). He is the director of the film "Love per square foot" (2018), and the director of "Bandish Bandits" (Amazon Prime Video series 2020).

Social Message

The film is about a sensitive issue LGBTQ community. Madurai accepted this challenging character and the performance was perfect. She performs as well as always. The movie portrays struggling women who do not express their emotional feelings of fear of society and their family reputation.

Director Anand Tiwari and writer Sumit Batheja have a unique approach to telling the story of two lesbian lovers Pallavi and Kanchan ( Sumona Singh). Both were married for years, living respectfully for their families.

"Maja Ma'' Means all is well, in the Gujarati language. Anand Tiwari has shown a true case of Gujarat's tradition, culture, and especially their Garba dance. Madurai looks like a gorgeous Gujarati woman and a brilliant dancer, a loving mother, who doesn't want to be a reason to stop her son's marriage.

Synopsis

The story begins with two lovers ( Ritwick Bhowmik and Barkha Singh) who want to get married. The movie leads to protagonist Pallavi Patel (Madhuri Dixit) a dedicated mother of two, and a popular dancer in society ( which helps to win her husband a society election).

Tejas' future in-laws travel to Gujarat from the US to meet his family for their marriage. Then, a sudden incident leads to the turmoil that puts Pallavi Patel's identity in question. How does she deal with all this, what do her family and society do, that's the rest of the story.

Analysis

Many scenes in the movie touch everyone. The movie discussed the husband-wife relationship, and it shows middle-class beliefs, values, and traditions. Every character in the film is good. Ritwick Bhowmik looks good as a Tejas. Gajraj Rao has also played Manohar Patel with ease. Simone Singh and Barkha Singh's characters needed to write something better.

There is overacting by Sheeba Chadha and Rajat Kapoor due to speaking in an American accent in some situations. This film seems too slow on many occasions, but this also could be fixed.

Music

The song "Boom Padi", means "spreading love and cheer", it's a good track to make you feel excited about the start Garba dance. Madurai Dixit beautifully shows off Garba here with other characters in the movie. The song " Kacchi Doriyaan" expresses the feelings of artists very well.

Public verdict

"LGBTQ- An Over squeeze topic presented in Different format."

"Madhuri Dixit is the stand out performer in Maja Ma."

Bottom line

This film is about accepting people and encouraging them not to judge others for who they are. For the time being, it seems strange whether a son would want to pursue his mother to take a "lie detector test" to marry into a wealthy family.

Badhai Do and Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui are good movies on the concept of the LGBTQ community, but "Maja Ma" is better and different matters are happening in our society. Gujarati cultured Story concept is brilliant. The movie's climax is an emotional journey, they will leave you to think about everyone in life.

I rate this movie 4 on 5.

You can watch Maja Ma on Amazon Prime Video
