Introduction
Since the beginning of human civilization, human beings have been destroying the environment, its elements, and resources in the name of development. But everything has its consequences. So, while we are busy in self-centric prosperity forgetting about the environmental risks, the ecological system of the world, and the climate have been wrecked. Deforestation, carbon emissions from factories and vehicles, manufacturing goods, producing food, consuming too many resources everything simultaneously causes “climate change” and withering “global warming”.
Nowadays, as “climate change” and “global warming” become the biggest concerns of our lives, many activists, environmentalists, and celebrities come in front to enthuse the people to unite to save our earth from extreme disasters. Recently “The Office” star Rainn Wilson decided to change his name to “Rainfall Heat Wave Extreme Winter Wilson” on 9th November this year as a climate protest. After the COP27 conference of UNFCCC in Egypt on 9th November, he changed his name in a tweet to raise awareness of the climate crisis.
Rainn Wilson
An American actor, comedian, podcaster, producer, and writer with the name of Rainn Percival Dietrich Wilson. He is popularly known for his role as Dwight Schrute in the NBC sitcom “The Office” (2005-2013). He was an outstanding supporting actor in the Hollywood industry who was awarded many honourable awards for his roles in movies and TV shows.
“Climate Change” and COP27
The increasing rate of climate change globally seen in this decade is significantly affecting every sphere of the earth. A primary effect of the climate is increasing temperatures worldwide. As the temperature is getting high gradually the heat waves are causing ice-melting and several other destructions in the world. It has a great impact on human and natural systems and socioeconomic costs.
Observing the impacts of climate change in a variety of sectors, the United Nations used to organize UNFCCC conferences to avoid dangerous climate change since 1995. This year the conference was held in Sharm-El-Sheikh, Egypt from 6th November to 20th November 2022. It was organized under the provisions of Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry with more than 92 heads of state and an estimated 35,000 representatives and delegates from 190 countries. After 2016, the summit was first held in Africa.
As it was the 27th summit of the Conference of the Parties (COP) of the UNFCCC, this year’s conference was commonly known as “COP27” where many topics discussed the climate impact of food including other critical thresholds and key vulnerabilities of the climate system.
Rainn Wilson’s Step to Protest Against Climate Change

To raise awareness about climate change, Rainn Wilson has changed his name to "Rainfall Heat Wave Extreme Winter Wilson." To coincide with the COP27 United Nations climate change summit taking place in Egypt this week, Wilson revealed his new name on Twitter on Wednesday. Although the actor's Twitter identity has not changed, it is unknown if he intends to do so for official government documents.
Wilson went on to explain that he changed his name via a website called Arctic Risk Name Generator and stated, “This is not a joke, I’m as serious as the melting Arctic, which amplifies global risks including extreme weather events around the globe." He further added that he would hope this name change brings attention to this growing and threatening melting issue. According to Rainn, our world needs the leaders at COP27 to take notice and take action for the betterment of this entire earth and its population.
Wilson's name change continues a recent pattern of outlandish, eye-catching climate activism to grab as much attention as possible. Recently, the UK-based environmental activist group Just Stop Oil has made news of having teenage climate activists glue themselves to the frames of famous artworks and toss food at them.
Even though the antics have received a mixed reaction from the public in terms of admiration and criticism, it should be highlighted that the activists have so far been careful not to harm the pieces in their demonstrations. Wilson continued by urging people to join him in the action, calling it a novel kind of mass protest intended to raise awareness of the climate disaster and put more pressure on international leaders to effectively solve the issue.
Wilson has previously been involved in environmental activism. The actor created the YouTube series "An Idiot's Guide To Climate Change," which featured interviews with prominent climatologists and climate activist Greta Thunberg.
Conclusion
There is a saying “where there is a will, there is a way”. Proving that true in reality like a true hero, Rainn Wilson showed that this was true by taking action to protect the vast majority of people all across the world, acting in the manner of a true hero. By this decision, not only he had shown himself to be a true environmentalist and progressive-minded person but also, he proved himself as a true nature lover and humanist of the decade. The world can only be saved if people like Rainn come together to fight climate change and reduce the destruction of nature at present.
