Yasna Sehgal - My Goal Has Always Been To Transparently And Reliably Help People (Lawyer From India )

I draw inspiration from a diverse array of individuals, not necessarily those who've made a big mark in society or gained public recognition. It's not about being a celebrity with millions of followers. Inspiration can emanate from someone diligently starting their job every day at 6 AM to sweep the streets clean or a person commuting 50 km almost every day to provide financial support to their family.

1. Could you share your journey and what motivated you to pursue law?

Raised in a humble environment, my parents and all elders instilled the principle of self-reliance and knowledge-sharing. The aspiration to be an educator, focusing on legal rights, took root in me from a very young age. Despite some varied interests during my final year of schooling, I opted for law finally due to its empowering nature and recognition as a highly successful career. I am, in fact, optimistic that in the coming 10-20 years, the legal profession will ascend to the top, solidifying its prominence even more.

2. What motivated you to begin your journey on social media, as someone who talks about awareness, both legal and general?

Started this when I was a law student myself; today, I am someone who has done both LLB and LLM. The challenge of finding trustworthy information online prompted me to create and manage my platform. My goal has always been to transparently and reliably help people, especially students in situations similar to mine. In addition to legal matters, my content creation covers holistic well-being, emphasizing our connection to the environment and nature. You'll discover a wealth of information on these subjects as well.

3. How do you stay updated with current career trends and opportunities?

Staying updated is integral to my profession, given the frequent legal updates, sometimes involving significant amendments that can reshape the nation's dynamics. I always advise the students I guide and teach to cultivate the habit of reading newspapers. Despite sounding somewhat traditional, this practice offers numerous benefits. It imparts discipline, as dedicating 20 minutes each morning to newspaper reading establishes a regular commitment. Moreover, regardless of language, reading a good newspaper can substantially improve communication skills. Nowadays, you also have a lot of different apps for reading newspapers, so definitely you can use technology as well.

4. What was the motivation behind becoming a career counsellor? In today's world, how important do you think it is for students and parents to seek career counselling?

Establishing direction in life is quite the journey. Despite having fantastic teachers and supportive parents, students do experience a knowledge gap, particularly during the big transition from school to college. This phase can be tumultuous, fraught with both excitement and anxiety. I felt that it’s important to realize one's true potential and eliminate unnecessary distractions. In my capacity as a career counsellor, I've had the privilege of guiding and teaching hundreds of students, particularly those navigating the complexities of school life and having an inclination towards the legal profession. You can find valuable insights on my Instagram handle, "TheFriendlyAdvocate." And yes, in the context of academic support, parents also play a very important role. It is important for them to actively engage with their child's academic pursuits and evolving interests. Staying informed in this dynamic academic environment is also important for them to provide effective guidance, and for this, they should also get in touch with career counsellors.

5. Who do you see as your inspiration and why?

I draw inspiration from a diverse array of individuals, not necessarily those who've made a big mark in society or gained public recognition. It's not about being a celebrity with millions of followers. Inspiration can emanate from someone diligently starting their job every day at 6 AM to sweep the streets clean or a person commuting 50 km almost every day to provide financial support to their family. It might be a single parent striving to ensure a secure future for her/his children. There are countless individuals around us worthy of being admired as sources of inspiration.
