Reetu And Anisha - We Believe That Success Is Variable and Our Idea of Success Might Also Change as We Evolve as People (Instagram Influencer)

A lot of people say that they want to dive into entrepreneurship because they’re sick of their 9 to 5-jobs. But starting something of your own is more than 9 to 5. It's 24x7.

1. Tell us about your background and journey.

Both of us come from the world of advertising. We worked in the industry as Assistant Directors and then started out as Directors. We were fortunate to have worked with some of the best people and brands out there. We also ventured into documentary filmmaking and even directed a documentary with BBC in 2021.

2. What led you to start your page on Instagram and what it is about?

After the pandemic, we understood that we had become completely jaded with our life in Mumbai and wanted to travel along with our pursuit of filmmaking and storytelling. Some clicks later, DillyDallyOnWheels was born. At first, our aim was to just document ourselves and our experiences while traveling. We never really had the inclination to influence people. Little did we know that it was the beginning of a new journey with its own fair share of ups and downs. Our page saw really slow growth on social media and now that we have a small community of people, we feel more responsible for providing them some sort of happiness and comfort through our vlogs/ reels.

3. What is your idea of success or your mantra in life?

We believe that success is variable and our idea of success might also change as we evolve as people. At this point, we want to take each day as it comes and do our best. It doesn’t mean every day will bring a sense of accomplishment. Yes, there will be setbacks and even those are necessary. But we want to work hard so that later when we look back, all of these days will have added up to something worthwhile.

4. How can someone become a successful social media influencer?

Again, we are just starting out and we really don’t think we are pioneers to be commenting on this. From whatever we have learned through our journey, there is no one formula to be a success on social media. Every person has their own audience and their own journey. What worked for us might not work for someone else. But there are some questions one must ask themselves when they start out - like what are you providing our viewers? Is it entertainment? Is it information? Or is it just your life you want them to be interested in?

5. What are your tips for first-time and aspiring entrepreneurs?

We have ventured into entrepreneurship recently. We are launching our demi-fine jewellery brand and every day is a lesson. As anyone who wants to start anything on their own, it requires a lot of hard work, and unwavering resilience because there will be a lot of challenges. A lot of people say that they want to dive into entrepreneurship because they’re sick of their 9 to 5-jobs. But starting something of your own is more than 9 to 5. It's 24x7. So it's better to have a strong motivation that drives you.

6. Is it financially sustainable to be an influencer today?

In the first few stages, it is not sustainable. For that one needs to be prepared. Some people might go viral on social media in their 3rd post, while for some it might take years. It is best to have financial support. If you are stressed out financially, it affects your well-being, your mental health, and even your creativity. A lot of creators started out on social media while they had full-time jobs. It's just that you would have to put in double the effort, but at least you will be financially secure initially.

7. How would you distinguish the term blogger from influencer?

Anybody who has influence over a certain community is an influencer - be it movie stars, comedians, politicians, basically most public figures. A Blogger or Vlogger can become an influencer given a certain audience but it may not be their only goal. Some people want to be vloggers because they enjoy the process of documenting parts of their lives or maybe enjoy photography or videography.
