2. Why did you choose podcast as a career and what were the first steps you took?
Choosing podcasting as my career path stemmed from a desire to create a platform that fosters genuine connections and provides both my guests and I with an unfiltered, intimate space for meaningful conversations. Having previously been immersed in traditional mediums like television and radio for over two decades, it felt like a natural extension. I sought a medium that allowed for uninterrupted dialogue and authentic storytelling.
One of the most enticing aspects of podcasting is its expansive reach, which extends globally through platforms like Spotify and YouTube. The prospect of reaching a diverse audience across borders and cultures was undeniably thrilling and opened up endless possibilities for engagement and connection.
My journey into podcasting began with thorough market research, particularly focusing on the landscape of podcasts tailored for a Punjabi audience. Understanding the unique preferences and interests of my target demographic was crucial in shaping the direction of ‘Chai with T’.
Following this initial groundwork, the next step was assembling a dedicated team and securing a suitable space to bring my vision to life. Collaborating with like-minded individuals who shared my passion for authentic storytelling was instrumental in laying the foundation for my podcasting journey.
3. What inspires you as a Podcaster?
What inspires me as a podcaster is the magic of storytelling. I've always been captivated by the tales people carry within them. Everyone has their own journey, filled with ups and downs that shape who they become. These stories are like gems waiting to be discovered, and they inspire me endlessly. When I share these stories through ‘Chai with T’, I hope to spark that same inspiration in others, encouraging them to see the beauty and power in their own narratives.
4. What are the skills required to be a podcaster?
Becoming a successful podcaster requires a set of essential skills. While the ability to converse effectively is pivotal, it's equally crucial to be an attentive listener. In my view, being an adept interviewer hinges on one's capacity to actively engage with and understand your guests.
Throughout my broadcasting and podcasting journey, I've prioritized approaching conversations with empathy and compassion, fostering an environment free from judgment. Maintaining an open mind, nurturing curiosity, and displaying a genuine eagerness to expand one's knowledge are integral facets of the podcasting craft. A podcaster also acts as the vital link between their guests and the audience, facilitating meaningful connections and ensuring a captivating listening experience.
5. What makes a person connect with their audience as a podcaster?
I feel that connecting with your audience as a podcaster is all about being genuine, relatable, and engaging. It's like having a conversation with a friend over coffee, (or in my case Chai) where you share stories, insights, and laughs. By being authentic, listening to your audience, and delivering content that resonates with them, you create a bond that keeps them coming back for more. It's about building a community, not just a listenership.
Also, creating a safe space for your guests where they can be open and vulnerable and share their stories of struggles and triumphs that can inspire and motivate others. That's the magic of podcasting – bringing people together through shared experiences and genuine connections.
6. Which is your favorite book?"
My favorite book is "The Alchemist" by Paulo Coelho. It's like a treasure chest full of wisdom and inspiration. The story follows a young shepherd named Santiago who embarks on a journey to follow his dreams and discover his personal legend. What I love most about this book is how it encourages us to listen to our hearts and pursue our deepest desires, no matter how daunting the journey may seem.
It's a reminder that magic exists in the world around us, and if we have the courage to pursue our dreams, the universe will conspire to help us achieve them. "The Alchemist" is not just a book; it's a timeless masterpiece that ignites the spark of adventure and possibility within each reader.
