Anuj Dutta - In a Matter of 15 Days I Went From 10.2k Followers to 51.3k Followers (Instagram Influencer with 114k Followers)

Being burnt out, time management, Creative blocks, lack of confidence, stagnant growth are some things that I go through every single month

1. Could you share about your background and journey?

I never really enjoyed studying, I was more fascinated by sports and cameras… I started way back In 2018 by just posting random landscapes and sunset pictures, when I got my first camera, eventually, I started posting pictures of myself, I would ask my best friend to take my picture, and I even taught him how to use a camera, I was not into being “fashionable” but I just liked dressing well all thanks to my mom and dad, surprisingly I started getting more likes and followers, that I time I used to watch these big fashion YouTubers buying Rolexes & Aston Martins fascinated by that .

I too started making YouTube videos thinking I would be rich too, I got early into reels but didn’t have too much success until 2021 when I made “Top 5 ways to style a white shirt” That reel blew up (that reel has 5.6m view) and shortly after that 3 of my other reels went viral as well, in a matter of 15 days I went from 10.2k followers to 51.3k followers.

2. How do you maintain authenticity and originality in your content while also meeting the expectations of brands and followers?

Well I would say I just like being the real me in front of the camera as much as I can to build genuine connections with my audience & from time to time I change things up a little bit just so the people who watch me don’t get bored of the same thing, I also take out time daily to reply to my DM’s and talk to everyone, build genuine connections.

I believe if you have a great connection with your audience you will automatically start meeting expectations of brands as well because people will enjoy watching any content you put out, its hard to find a balance between meeting expectations of both brands and your audience but as a creator that is my job.

3. What are some challenges you've faced as an influencer, and how have you overcome them?

Being burnt out, time management, Creative blocks, lack of confidence, stagnant growth are some things that I go through every single month, I was stuck at 108k followers for almost a year, I have creative blocks every single month, I still feel that what if I am not good enough? Or what if my content isn’t at par with everyone else?

And don’t even get me started as to how am I able to manage my college and content at the same time…and the answer to overcoming most of these problems is quite simple just be patient, take some days off, enjoy the life outside your phone and come back stronger.

4. How do you handle negative feedback or criticism from your audience?

Well if it’s constructive criticism I take it very positively, I work on it, and try to do it better but if it's just a random negative comment I simply ignore it….Because whenever you try to do something new people will dislike it, you can't get every negative comment in your head because people will hate on things they personally can't relate to or understand, but that doesn’t mean that you are doing something wrong.

5. If you could offer a piece of advice to aspiring content creators, what would it be?

Just make that piece of content! You don’t need the latest iPhone, the best lighting setup, the best background, the best cameraman, or the best editor to start, start with whatever you have, any phone these days has a decent camera that takes good videos, you don’t need any lighting setup if you have a window and sunlight that all you need!! if you can make a good engaging piece of content people will watch it no matter what, people should focus on making good content instead of good-looking content.

6. What is a book you love and would recommend our readers to give it a try?

I would suggest Atomic Habits by James Clear & Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill
