Jaya Misra Interview
"I'm a cosmopolitan at heart, but my roots run deep in India, especially Mumbai, where I grew up."
Q. You say “Fashion is a way of life” — how does that shape your daily choices?
Fashion is more than just clothes; it's an attitude, a way of being. It's about kindness, class, and sophistication. How you treat others, your etiquette, and your inner beauty shine through. True style is a reflection of your character. Elegance is not just about looks, but about the beauty that comes from within.Q. What does winning the Dada Saheb Phalke Award in 2018 mean to you personally?
Receiving this prestigious award is a dream come true! It's a huge motivation, giving me the push to strive for more, to innovate, and to keep pushing boundaries. It's a reminder that hard work and dedication truly pay off. This award fuels my passion and inspires me to reach even greater heights.
Starting from scratch in the interior parts of Odisha, especially during the COVID pandemic, was indeed a challenge.
Q. Which project in interiors has felt the most “you”?
Starting from scratch in the interior parts of Odisha, especially during the COVID pandemic, was indeed a challenge. But I thrive on challenges! Simple things don't excite me; it's the complexity and opportunity to innovate that drive me. Bringing everything to life from the ground up has been a rewarding experience.
Q. As an event curator, what’s the secret to creating unforgettable experiences?
Every project is a labor of love, a reflection of my passion and dedication. I pour my heart and soul into each one, making sure every detail is perfect. They're not just projects; they're my babies, and I nurture them until they're complete. Organizing events in Jamshedpur was a thrilling experience!
Coordinating logistics for guests, production team, and catering staff over 80 km was a challenge. But the highlight later was worth it – starting with high tea on the hills and then moving to the bungalow. Making it all come together for my clients was a triumph!
Q. How do you balance elegance with innovation in your work?
Elegance and class truly emanate from within. Staying calm under pressure allows me to work more efficiently, and my team responds with better results. It's all about maintaining a positive attitude – it sets the tone for success and fosters a productive, harmonious work environment.
Q. Which city in the world best represents your style?
I'm a cosmopolitan at heart, but my roots run deep in India, especially Mumbai, where I grew up. There's something about the energy, culture, and people that stays with you forever. No matter where life takes me, Mumbai will always be home.
