Tanushree Joon Interview
Q. Before conscious living became your space, who was Tanushree Joon and what sparked your shift toward healthier eating?
I was honestly just like any other young girl. I grew up in a typical Haryanvi Jaat household where food meant strength, and strength meant carb-heavy meals. Junk food wasn’t encouraged, but balanced nutrition wasn’t really a conversation either. Homemade, filling food was the norm.
At the same time, movement was always part of my life. My father and grandfather believed strongly in staying active, so runs and walks were routine. But as I grew older, that imbalance between food and nutrition started showing up. I gained some weight, nothing drastic, but enough to make me feel disconnected from my body.
Around 15 or 16, that discomfort became my turning point. I had grown up lean, and suddenly feeling chubby didn’t sit right with me. That pushed me to question food, understand nutrition, and eventually move toward healthier, more intentional eating. Not to chase perfection, but to feel like myself again. That’s where this entire journey really began.
Q. How does your brand marketing background influence the way you create and communicate wellness content?
My marketing background gives me clarity and structure. I worked with a brand that deeply valued honesty and women empowerment, and that shaped how I look at communication. Transparency wasn’t optional, it was the foundation.
When I started creating content, I knew I wanted to keep that same honesty intact. I only share what I genuinely believe in and practice in my own life. I never tried to chase trends or create an image. I trusted that if I stayed true to my values, the right audience would find me. Over time, that trust paid off.
Q. What’s one mindset shift that makes healthy eating feel doable instead of overwhelming?
I focus on results, not restriction.
We’ve made the word diet sound scary, but it simply means what you eat every day. Instead of fearing it, I look at it as choosing food that supports my body. In the beginning, you wait for results, and once you start seeing them, the motivation comes naturally.
That’s when wellness stops feeling forced. The body’s response changes your mindset, and healthy eating starts feeling like something you want to do, not something you’re stuck doing.
Q. When creating a recipe, what matters most to you: taste, nutrition, or relatability?
Most people tell me my recipes look time-consuming, but they’re actually very meal prep-friendly. You can prepare elements in bulk for four to five days, and daily assembly takes just 15–20 minutes. Nutrition comes next, and taste is always close behind. I don’t believe in compromising on flavour just because something is healthy.
Whether I’m living with family or away from home, I carry my essentials from my “ghar ki rasoi” and keep food simple, practical, and nourishing. That’s what makes it aesthetic yet realistic for busy lives.
Q. How do you balance ambition, work pressure, and self-care in a fast-paced city like Gurugram?
I anchor myself to food. There are days when you skip workouts or don’t feel like cooking, but you always need to eat. My focus is on eating well, whether that means cooking at home, ordering in, or eating out. Good, nourishing food has a calming effect on me.
Even on days when work doesn’t go well, or I miss a workout, eating well gives me a sense of balance. It reminds me that I still take care of my body. Movement follows naturally; sometimes it’s just a 30-minute walk. Nothing extreme.
That’s how I avoid burnout. Simple, consistent, and kind self care.
