Kushagra Thakur Interview
Singer-songwriter and Dehradun-born artist Kushagra reflects on his remarkable musical evolution following the massive global success of Finding Her, has 368K Subscribers, which crossed 500 million streams on Spotify. Partnering with UR Debut and EYP Creations, he discusses overcoming pressure, managing creative blocks, and building a versatile discography.
Q. Since the success of Finding Her, how has your approach to making music evolved, and what have you learned about yourself as an artist?
Finding Her has been a major learning experience, helping me explore diverse sounds and emotions while building confidence in my process. I am learning to trust my instincts, stay open to new ideas, and embrace steady growth while creating music that reflects who I am.
Q. With Finding Her crossing 500 million streams on Spotify, do you feel a different kind of pressure when working on new music? How do you approach each new release?
While massive reach brings pressure, dwelling on past success can block new discoveries. Every song stems from a distinct emotion, and I want the freedom to explore that without recreating past moments. Ultimately, I want each release to reflect personal growth and genuine artistic evolution.
Q. When you start working on a song, what usually inspires you first—a melody, a lyric, a personal experience, or an emotion you want to express?
There is no fixed starting point. A melody, an lingering emotion, or an unexpected beat can take a track in a new direction. I enjoy this unpredictability and allow the song to develop naturally based on what feels right in the moment.
Q. You release your music through UR Debut. How has working with the platform supported your growth as an artist and helped you bring your musical ideas to life?
UR Debut and EYP Creations have played a crucial role by providing the creative freedom to explore my identity. Their support has encouraged me to take charge of my writing and composition, allowing me to trust my ideas and experiment with new sounds.
Q. Music often becomes a part of people's personal memories and relationships. What does it mean to you when a listener connects with your song in a way you never expected?
It is one of the most rewarding aspects of making music. Listeners bring their own lives and memories to a song, turning it into something much larger than the artist who created it. That organic connection makes the entire process special.
Q. When you feel creatively stuck or a song isn't turning out as you imagined, what helps you find your way back to it?
I avoid forcing an idea. Stepping back to gain fresh perspective, or experimenting with minor tweaks in arrangement and melody, often opens new paths. Patience is key; giving a song time is just as vital as working on it.
Q. Looking back at your journey with UR Debut, what has been the biggest learning or opportunity that has helped shape you into the artist you are today?
The greatest lesson has been learning to believe in my vision. Working with a team that trusts my creative direction has given me the confidence to take bold decisions, refine my sound, and continuously push my boundaries.
