Delhi University was established in 1922 and as of today is the most sought-after higher education institute in the country. Delhi University admissions are like a national event each year, capturing the attention of the entire nation. Admission in majority of the courses offered at Delhi University (DU) is on the basis of merit. However for some courses admission is also administered through an entrance exam.

The arts stream offers a wide variety of courses and opens up gates to a plethora of career options. The stream is broadly categorized into humanities, fine arts, visual arts, and performing arts. 1. Lady shri ram college for women (lsr)


Lady Shri Ram (LSR) College is famous for courses offered in Journalism, Political Science and Elementary Education.


It has a beautiful 15acre campus in South Delhi, about 2000 students, over 150 faculty, administrative and support staff and 16 courses of study. It has emerged as one of the premier institutes not only in Delhi but also all over the country for Arts stream. Distinguished almunae include prominent journalist Nidhi Razdan, Geeta Chandran (Dancer/Choreographer), Naina Lal Kidwai (Group General Manager and Country Head of HSBC India.)


2. St. Stephen's college


It was established in the year 1922.
The oldest college of DU, St Stephen’s College was initially located at Chandni Chownk’s Kinnari Bazar. The college shifted to Delhi University’s North Campus in 1941.
The most sought after courses are english, economics and psychology honours. It has emerged as a top-notch educational institute and is best known for its record-breaking placements.
The college conducts its own admission process that students need to clear in order to secure admission in the college.


3. Miranda House 

It was founded by the then Vice-Chancellor Sir Maurice Gwyer in the year 1948.The college was recently declared the best college in India in Human Resource Development Ministry’s NIRF Rankings for the second time in a row.
The college has proven itself in the field of education due to its academic excellence and currently offers liberal education in humanities and science to more than 2500 students. The college has provided students an enabling and creative environment to freely develop and express views that help them respond to changes in society.


4. Hindu college 

The college was founded by Late Shri Krishan Dassji Gurwale in the year 1899 and is spread across 25 acres of modern campus.
It also offers certificate courses in foreign languages to aspirants. The college currently has 120 academic staff and offers education to 2,500 students.
The college offers variety of humanities courses- philosophy, english, economics, psychology, political science, sociology, hindi. It has been one of the premier institution of the country and has continued its legacy of developing young adpiring leaders. It's illustrious alumni have been working successfully in various fields.


5. Hansraj college 

The Hans Raj College was established in the year 1948 and was inspired by renowned nationalist, Mahatma Hans Raj. The college offers numerous humanities courses. The college’s alumni lists hold names of prominent people from the media industry, making it a popular choice among the youth.


6. Indraprastha college for women 

Established in 1924, Indraprastha College for Women is a pioneer in the field of women’s education.
Set up in the office cum residence of the British Commander-in-Chief (1938) the College Building has been declared a ‘heritage building’ by the Government of Delhi. It is one of the top colleges in India offering humanities courses like psychology, economics, sociology, english ,etc.
IP College for Women is the only college of DU that offers BA (Hons) in Multimedia and Mass Communication (BMMMC) course. It has also introduced two new courses from the July 2017 academic session which are BA (Hons) Sociology and BA (Hons) Geography. The college has its own swimming pool and you can’t miss lectures here because they are very strict about it.
It has managed to generate young aspiring ladies.


7. Jesus and Mary college (JMC) 

The college was established in the year 1961 and provides its students' courses in Arts, Commerce and Mathematics. It holds a separate admission process for its courses. It is very well known for its humanities courses. Many notable alumni are working successfully in Bollywood.


8. Shri Venkateshwara college 

Popularly known as Venky was set up to provide quality education to South Indian Students.It is one of the best colleges offering various humanities courses like English, economics, etc. The cutoffs are also very high so getting an admission here is not a cakewalk.


9. Gargi college

Located at South Campus of Delhi University, Gargi College has been named after an enlightened woman, Gargi, who is mentioned in the Brihadaranyaka Upanishada of the Vedic Age. Gargi College has 180 faculty members and is known to impart education to around 3,500 students. It is the only all-girl’s college in South Campus to offer courses to students in fours streams – Arts, Commerce, Science and Teacher Training programme in Elementary Education. It's humanities courses are very popular amongst the students and encounter high cut offs.
Students have been excelling in various fields like - philosophy, media and advertising, journalism., etc.


10. Kamla Nehru college (knc) 

It was established in the year 1964 . It is an all girls college located at DU's south campus . This college only offered humanities courses but later courses from commerce stream were also added . Some of the arts courses offered are : journalism, English, history, philosophy, psychology, geography,etc.
It is a very recognised college with alumnus excelling in various fields.


There are a very wide variety of options available in humanities stream . Some of india's best arts colleges are part of famous university of Delhi . If you are part of any of the above colleges then you are truly on the path towards realizing your dreams. If you are not, there is no reason to be disheartened as ultimately your zeal and determination to achieve something will matter more than whether you had gone to a top 10 institute or not.
