With the help of the advancement in technology, there has been a huge change and improvement in the advertisements over the decades. Traditional advertising consisted of print advertising on newspapers, posters, etc. It then moved onto the radio and television commercials and now as you can see it is everywhere, from public transits, to the internet and your phones and wherever possible in the public.
Now, what is the purpose of an advertisement?
The first purpose of an advertisement is the awareness of your product or services to everyone. It is very important that you ensure everyone knows that your product or services exist. You cannot go further without spreading the knowledge of the existence of your product or services.
The next step involves encouraging your target audience with the help of the content of your advertisement to have a look at your product or services in order to persuade them to buy it in the future. Your advertisement must send a message to the target audience and potential buyers so that they can be motivated enough to consider making a purchase and recommend it to others too.
Advertisers should be influential, understanding, creative and take risks in order to send an eye-catching message or something that compels them to go check out the product or services. It is not easy to be a good Advertiser, especially in a highly competitive global market like this, but with the help of these below mentioned traits one can be a great Advertiser.
1. Awareness:
Awareness is of key importance in the Market which means Advertisers have to definitely keep up with what is going on in the market. They should be aware of what is trending, what are some things that are undesirable at that point in the market, what is inappropriate and offensive and what could hurt the sentiments of the people.
Advertisers should be careful with what message and content they want to put out in the advertisement. For instance, if the said advertisement wants to talk about or display a social issue while advertising their products or services they must be educated on that issue. They should not be ignorant as that would be inappropriate, insensitive and drive away any potential customers.
They should also be aware of who their target audience is, what they like and plan the message to persuade them accordingly. Doing a research can prove helpful.
2. Brainstorming:
Before one can settle onto an idea for an Advertisement, a lot of thought goes into it. The ideation process for a tiniest print ad, YouTube ad, Instagram story or any social media ad in general takes a lot of time. During the brainstorming process one should listen to everyone’s concepts and give it a thought.
No one idea or concept that occurs immediately can be brilliant or even worthy of being produced. Listening to unique ideas and understanding them helps. In some cases, it might even turn out better if the ideation process is carried out separately by the members of the Advertising team but the brainstorming of it can be a collaborative effort.
Yet again, the ideas should be related to something that attracts the target audience and potential buyers. For instance, if you’re creating an ad for a classy and expensive watch it is designed most probably for the working people, hence the concept of the advertisement should relate to that and if it is a trendy, stylish, smart watch then it would most likely draw the attention of teenagers, and the youth. Therefore, the advertisement should be made keeping that target audience in mind.
3. Creativity:
Advertisers need to be very creative due to the highly competitive market. They must challenge themselves to think of innovative ways to present the product and services to the potential buyers. They should not repeat or just modify what was already done but do it in a unique way.
This is important because at first the masses may not even look at the advertisement wholeheartedly so when they do have a look at it, it should intrigue them enough to pay attention to it the next time they see it, or they can look it up especially when it comes to digital advertisements.
Speaking of digital advertisements like banners on the internet or social media, they are much shorter in duration than other advertisements therefore the message they send should be creative, interesting and useful so that the target audience can immediately click on the embedded link that takes them to the product or services so they can learn more about it.
4. Simplicity:
Advertisers should think of a simple but smart message. A complex message would not be helpful as it might confuse the target audience as to what the advertisement is trying to convey. The simpler the advertisement, the more it helps to get your point across.
5. Emotions or Motivational Messages:
Advertisements are all about touching the hearts of people. The advertisement can also send a message based on emotions such happiness, excitement, sadness, or motivational messages like self-love, independence etc. in order to make it realistic and so that it is memorable or informative for the masses.
For instance, an advertisement about a relationship between friends, family, love one’s and siblings or reminiscing certain childhood or school/ college memories may evoke nostalgia amongst the viewers, whereas ads about self-love, independence may arouse confidence in them. This makes the product stand out to the target audience because it touches their hearts and can prove quite helpful to persuade them to buy it.
6. Visualization:
Visualization is of major importance in Advertising. The world is all about beauty, visuals and something everyone has now heard of aesthetically pleasing. So, in simple terms, an Advertisement should be aesthetically pleasing, it should attract the viewers so much so that they engage with the advertisement and be attracted to the product and service. The visuals of the advertisements shouldn't be too loud or too boring it should be just right for the viewers to take notice of.
7. Organization:
When it comes to the layout of any advertisement, be it print, visual or audio there is one thing for certain you must be confident, straightforward and clear with the message. Do not complicate it. For instance, in an audio commercial if the audio of the message is spoken to fast or in a complex manner with unrelated topics that the target audience may not be familiar with, it may not prove successful.
In some other case, if the font size, colour, style etc, don’t cooperate with the visuals of the ad or make it difficult for the target audience to read, it may again cause a problem. The placement of the ads too plays a key factor, for instance the print ads right on the first page may gain more attention, a billboard behind a large tree may not be visible to everyone, etc.
Successful advertising is not a piece of cake it is very challenging but if you keep putting in the efforts and work hard to create a great advertisement it may still be fruitful. It is also essential to know of the wants and needs of the target audience so conducting a research or survey to understand your potential buyers can be highly beneficial. If you keep the above-mentioned factors in mind, it might help you be a great Advertiser.
