1) Tell us more about your role & responsibilities at your college.

AVNI - The Eco Club of Gargi College with 180 students in the group have collectively worked and learned through different activities with high aspirations to grow as budding environmentalists and a youth which is conscious about the resources it use and adopt sustainable practices of living. The students associated with the Eco Club have been active throughout the years with the strong support and guidance that has always played a very important role in the opportunities and activities that the students have got.
So as the President of AVNI- THE ECO CLUB of Gargi College, DU, for last two years and as the Senior Advisor now, my work is to :-
  • Maintain strong channels of communication with ECO CLUBS of other colleges.
  • Oversee, control and support all other posts.
  • Maintain strong channel of communication within the union and advisors.
  • Act as the student representative of ECO CLUB in college and inter - college activities.
  • Responsible for completion of all the union tasks.
  • Overseeing society affairs like workshops, trainings etc.
  • Maintain coordination and communication in society.
  • Maintain records for progress of students during the year.
  • Encourage society to maximise participation in all inter - college events.
  • Finalizing all data and issuing certificates to all eligible candidates.
  • Maintaining hours and other detailed records of every volunteer.
  • Facilitation in smooth organising of events.
  • Selecting volunteers and assigning duties.
  • Regular and continuous volunteers dealings and addressing their queries.
  • Formulating messages and posters to be circulated for every event which will be organised  by the ECO CLUB.

2) What's it like to juggle between a leadership role and normal college life?

Gargi College is the hub of Cultural and Non-Cultural Societies, in DU, which work actively throughout the year. Students, here, experience a learning environment every day supported by workshops, competitions, training programmes, seminars etc. It represents a great effort by students who to initiative to take some leadership roles in these active societies among active students. So, it demands extra efforts and time to fulfil all the responsibilities that comes with the post of an office bearer. It has always been a great learning experience for me to learn and work under the guidance of the great and humble teachers of Gargi.

3) Do you enjoy the kind of influence you hold at such a young age?

Yes, I think that my involvement in Eco Club as the office bearer has brought many learning opportunities for me always. I enjoy learning new things from all the 180 students who are members of Eco Club and sharing my learnings with them as well. I got the opportunity to get the training of Passive Design Techniques under Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) in AAETI, Alwar and presented the Eco Audit in North Regional Conclave organised by CSE in Gurunanak Dev University in Amritsar, with Dr. Monica Gupta ( Teacher Convener, Eco Club).

4) Do you have a message for parents to allow their kids to do things besides academics?

Yes, there must be a balance between academics and extra-curricular activities, both must be considered as primary tools for holistic development of a student.

5) What did you do in your current role that makes you feel really proud of yourself?

As mentioned about my works above, I feel happy that I have got such learning opportunities, I will be cherishing them forever.

6) What's your message to encourage students to do internships and attend conferences?

I would like to share my perspective of being active in extra - curricular activities,  i.e., in college a student must try to learn all that appears to be new, must participate in every activity going in and around the college and consider herself or himself responsible for the exposure or new experiences. Great opportunities are always around, but one needs to be alert and ready to grab them.
