1.Tell us more about your journey. 

It was an interesting and exciting journey to be honest. So I took computer science as my group major in 12th. After discussing with few seniors plus understanding the scope , career path I opted for computer science. 

And as like every fellow engineer out there I was dragged towards learning about business. Now my journey Is a mix of engineering and business.


2. What is a typical role of a Business Development person in any organization?

A business development person is the one who contributes to the top line of any firm, as they go find new business then the company grows and eventually when a happy customer returns back to the firm for the service that we had offered then it is a lifetime attachment.


3. What skills does one need to make a career in Business Development/Sales?

The skill set required for a Business Development is a composure of different attitudes, I would say the foremost trait is the ability to adjust to the changing conditions. Understand your customer, because that is the primary step in pushing your service closer towards customers, So second trait is listening skills. 

And the third most important is the hard work, because a Business Development need to work to satisfy the customer needs. The last but not the least being patience, as the customers are the foremost important thing for a organization they should be patient to gain his/her support.


4. Could you share some generic tips for lead conversion?

  • Focus the right audience
  • Get the right platform
  • Filter out the potential leads
  • Understand your leads
  • Offer and counteroffer based on the needs of customer
  • Closure of the service and regular follow ups

5. How can one know if they have a knack for Business Development and will enjoy the role?

This is based on each persons internal ability, usually introverts even succeed in Business Development role. So on the base a person should have a enthusiasm and he/she should enjoy their job. This is the primary knack that I think need for a Business Development role. 


6. Which is your favorite book and why?

The autobiography of Lee Iacocca, this book initiated and thrilled me to take up sales/Business Development as the primary role. Lee Iacocca was the former president of ford, only president who was moved up form marketing and sales vertical. 

And after being brutally thrown out of the company at the age of 61, he didn’t stop he took over as the president of General motors and moved the company from a bankruptcy stage to 3rd largest market player in US.
