Don’t Downgrade Your Dream Just to Fit Your Reality - Rishab Chaubey

1. Tell us about your background and journey.

My name's Rishab Chaubey and I'm based in UP, India. Back in elementary the frog surgery sparked off my interest in the field of medicine. When the time came, I chose biology as an intermediate and decided to write the National Eligibility Test for medico .I failed to get admission in a government college in the first go. Later after completing my graduation I qualified for admission through NEET at BRD college Gorakhpur, for dentistry.

2. Despite of so much of talent in India, why do people look abroad for treatment?

I think there are two two reasons for it

(1) practical knowledge in most of medical college is insufficient . Theory based study is not effective as practical based studies.
(2) lack of proper infrastructure in indian hospitals. Here the lack of medical equipments in most of hospital is a normal thing, infact many government hospitals lack oxygen supplies.

3. How important is super speacialization for doctors?

Super specialisation is very important. Suppose I study abroad or other state but I chose to practice in my hometown there is a difference in both condition. Super speciality helps you to understand the person's condition better. Here it is important to understand patient before giving medical suggestions.

4. What is your take on virtual methods of providing treatments?

Virtual methods of treatment is good if we have proper infrastructure  and technology development . The method is very effective in this pandemic because meeting with all patients is not possible .But I think India is far away from complete virtual method of treatment because lack of proper internet speed and lack of technology in most of the hospitals. Virtual surgery is only possible in some hospitals.

5. What do you think are the key differences in studying medical in India and other countries?

I met some of friends who study abroad and on this basis I think our study is more theory based and more broad syllabus. Here admission in private colleges is very expensive . Class timings for Indian students are also more .

6. Which countries are the best for studying medical besides India?

Countries of EU ,Canada, Australia ,US,UK  are good for medical education but most of Indian students choose country like China, Russia, Philippines because they are less expensive .

7. Which is your favorite book and why?

I love books on evolution, human psychology and physiology. It revolves around our ancestry, their development, and know our body physiology well.

8. What impact do you want to create in the medical field?

I want to make our country healthy and decrease the burden of treatment cost that creates poverty .
