1. Tell us about your background and journey.

I’ve been in India for the past 28 years as I was born in the United States and brought up in New Delhi but my roots are from China. During my college in Delhi, I was working with a CA firm called “Ernst & Young”. During that time I also realised that I had a passion for dance as I used to participate in college competition.

Little did I know that in 2011 I would appear in a Dance Reality show called Just Dance and it would gain me so much popularity. It was at that point I decided that I would move to Mumbai. In the next two years, I choreographed many Reality shows, events and was doing really good for myself.

Then came Dil Dosti Dance the first TV serial I got selected for. I had choreographed an episode with a renowned choreographer Javed Sanadi in that show and then the creative had asked me for an audition. I was very sceptical at first but the creatives made it a breeze for me with the whole Audition process and from there my passion for acting began and after that, there was no stopping.

2. Did you ever think or dream of being an actor?

Well, until very recently I didn’t know that acting is one of my passions. For me, I handed over my future to Destiny. If it was meant to be it will happen. So whatever came my way I took it up and when things materialised I stayed but when it didn’t then it wasn’t for me in the first place.

3. How can one approach their career and have the confidence and belief to become an actor?

Hard work and consistency. Though acting is a talent that comes naturally to some it’s always best to learn technique and gather as much practical knowledge to make sure that you have the tools to help you grow and sustain.

4. If not this, what would you be doing?

I’ve noticed that I’m inclined towards shot taking and framing of a scene. I have also directed a couple short films. So, maybe if not an actor I’d be a director. It’s something I’d still like to pursue.

5. For a complete outsider with inroads, what advice would you like to give?

Though luck is a big factor, when it runs out persistence is the only thing you need to help you move forward. Again, hard work and honing of skills is of utmost importance.

6. What is your mantra of success?

I always think of two things - why I began this journey and am I happy to be where I am now. It keeps me grounded.

7. Which is your favourite book and why?

Since childhood, I’ve always been a hard reader of comics from DC, Marvel, Astrix to tinkle, Chacha Choudhary etc. I loved comics because they were pure entertainment on a piece of paper which had a story, plot twists, action, comedy etc.
