If you would have to introduce yourself in a gist, what all will you include about yourself?

Hi, my name is Purnima Madaan. I am a blogger and an influencer. I love to write about fashion, lifestyle, and travel. I just started with an e-comm of my own in the fashion accessories niche. It’s called Yosoberry, and another thing that I am working on right now is a character for fun videos – Bua Ji. She is a typical Indian woman who loves to nose into other people’s matters, but she also has a fantastic presence of mind and a weird perspective of the things around.

What led you to start your page on Instagram, and what is it about?

I started with Instagram – purnimamadaan a few years back to accompany my blog. It is in the fashion and lifestyle niche because I loved to dress-up, put on make-up, and just play around with colors and patterns. Instagram, like a Facebook Page and a Pinterest Page, is only one of the many things that a blog requires to build an audience. However, one good thing that happened with Insta was that I created it by my name, and since then, it has been a lucky mistake.

How would you distinguish the term blogger from an influencer?

A blogger is someone who has a space to share their thoughts. This can be a free or self-hosted blog. And an influencer is someone who has a massive following. I feel blogging is more fulfilling. It gives you a much more extensive array of space, tools, and control to present yourself. Plus, on a blog, you control the content.

Being an influencer has its own perks. You do not have to spend hours solving the technical glitches, the theme, or the workflows. You can focus all your energy into producing content.

I am having my share of fun being an influencer. However, if you ask me to pick one, I think I will stick with my blog because of the freedom and control it provides.

Is it financially sustainable to be an influencer today?

Amidst the pandemic, the things are definitely hard. But the bigger picture is fun and rewarding. So, yes, if you are creative and enjoy being in front of the camera, influencing is financially sustainable.

What do you think influences consumer behavior?

I think creating content that either solves a problem or invokes strong emotions is the kind of content that influences consumer behavior. Plus, it has to be subtly or comically presented and not pushed down the throat.

Your opinion on Instagram contemplating removing likes option for posts.

I think it’s good. It reduces the negativity on the platform that people feel when they do not get enough likes. Also, it will make people like content that they genuinely like, not just because of a hundred thousand others like it.

Of course, for influencers and brands, it might not be the very best thing. However, I am confident that Instagram will introduce better tools for business owners in the coming years.

Which is your favorite book, and why?

My favorite book is ‘Why I Stopped Wearing My Socks’ by Alok Kejriwal. It is motivating, inspiring, and takes the reader through a journey of an entrepreneur. What else do I need? A cup of coffee to accompany the book, maybe. 😊

What is your idea of success or your mantra in life?

I believe in ‘The Secret.’ We get what we attract. If you want success in life, you have to constantly believe in your goals, think about them, and keep on working towards them.
