Seven Tips to Boost Your Mental Health

Do you know that physical health depends upon mental health? There is a positive correlation between body and mind. Working on mental health is as important as taking care of physical health. Emotional stress makes your immunity weak which is a major part of physical health. Recognising the mind and body connection is very important. However, there are only a few people who would talk about mental health. This may be due to guilt, fear of judgement, shyness. It is important to be mentally fif for every individual. 

Having good mental health can help us feel better. We do not need to wait for hard times. Maintaining good mental health is not only good for us but also helps in handling tough situations and maintaining healthy relations with people. Here are a few tips for you to stay sound mentally:

1. Self Love/Value

Give yourself some time. Do not feel pity for your problems. Be kind to yourself and accept who you are. Plant a garden, learn music or dance, raise a pet, eat your favourite food, read stories, learn a new language, and cook for yourself. Appreciate yourself if you are doing well. Offer help to the needy. You will get to know other people and learn from them. You will feel good when you give yourself.

2. Journaling

Maintain a daily journal. Practice gratitude. Be grateful for whatever you have in your life. Write things down for which you are grateful today. Thank people who are kind to you. Write down the appreciations you have received. Send a thank-you note for those who helped you. Pour down all your feelings, be it the happiest memory or the saddest one. If you are having trouble, list out all the possible ways to solve it. Your journal will be your best friend who would never judge you.

3. Be Mindful

Focus on one thing at a moment. Do not wander along with your thoughts. It will be difficult not to play your guilty and regression playlist in your mind. But, when you are conscious and concentrating on the work you do, you can pause the playlist. Feel the world around you, pay attention to every little thing you can sense. Observe the magic. You fall in love with your work.

Meditation will help you to reduce stress. There are many ways to meditate. You can try apps like Headspace to do it formally or join a nearby mental health institute. You can surprise yourself at how many good things will happen to you.

4. Get Good Sleep

Go ahead and yarn. Sleep is vital for both physical and mental health. If we don’t get enough sleep, we feel anxious, stressed, or irritated. Consult a doctor if you have any sleeping problems. Here are a few tips for you to sleep well:

  1. Choose quality bedding

  2. Avoid light disruption

  3. Monitor your caffeine intake

  4. Disconnect from devices

  5. Try relaxation techniques

  6. Set a fixed wake-up time


5. Gather Support

When you talk to your supportive family member or a close friend who would never judge you about your feelings makes you feel better. Make plans to spend some time with them. When you are unable to alter the tough situation this will help you to feel free. If you can’t meet them, talk to them on the phone or write to them.

6. Eat Healthy and Workout

Working out can help you put in a good mood. Exercising can help you to be active throughout the day. You don’t need to run a marathon; you can go for a gentle walk or jog at your place. You can do simple aerobic exercise or yoga.

Taking nutritious food will help you to be healthy as a diet which is good for your physical health will also improve your mental health. Take some omega-3 fatty acids into your diet. They are linked to decreased depression. Whole grains, fruits, vegetables, fish, and nuts can contribute to a better lifestyle and promote mental health. Drink enough water. Do not make smoking and drinking a habit.

7. Seek Help

In times of such pandemic, we're all likely to take a toll on our mental health. We might get bored, feel unproductive and start eating unhealthy food. This is the time when we have to find our motivation and strength and feel stronger every day!
