1. Tell us more about your company and your journey.
I launched my company, ORGDYNE Training & Consulting, LLC (see https://www.orgdyne.com) in 2008. We are a training and consulting firm based in the US, with operations in India.
At the moment, my major focus is on academia and on enhancing the quality of education in India. I work regularly with young undergraduate and graduate students, including doctoral scholars who need my guidance and mentorship.
I first arrived in the US in 1987, and since that time, my journey has been full of struggle. But I did not let the roadblocks get in the way of my progress.
At age 68, the fire continues to burn inside me, and each day I wake up with a new dream, a new aspiration, and a new hill to climb!
2. How did you come up with the idea of training & consulting company and go about executing it?
The idea of launching my firm came to me after I joined a doctoral program in the US. The Ph.D. studies provided a great deal of academic and professional insight for me. They gave me confidence and stature in an alien country.
3. What has been your biggest challenge that you faced and how did you overcome that?
I have had more challenges and difficulties than I care to mention here. I faced each challenge in my own non-traditional way, which is to treat every challenge as a bend in the road and not as the end of the road.
Every new challenge tests our grit and determination to either give up or continue. I choose the latter!
4. What do you think are the most important qualities of a successful entrepreneur?
Every successful entrepreneur has her or his own unique strengths and rarities. But if I were to list a few, they would be
1) Resilience,
2) Love of risk and adventure,
3) Great humility and kindness, and
4) Faith in the Almighty God!
5. What are some of the most important factors for running a successful business?
1) Technical functional skills (you should know well what you expect from others),
2) A thirst for learning new things,
3) Networking,
4) Charity and volunteer service, and
5) Mentoring others to grow into your position
6. What are your tips for the first time and aspiring entrepreneurs?
Conquer fear and risk through action! Create a reserve fund before you launch a business. Develop a solid business plan and keep doing course correction in order to stay current and updated.
7. How can one overcome a hurdle of lack of funds when starting up?
Reach out to venture capitalists with a strong business plan.
8. How is the startup ecosystem different in the United States as compared to India?
They are very different geopolitical systems, really. The USA is an individualistic society, while India is more community-based. Both countries value new start-ups, but capital funding may be initially difficult for a new business in India.
