Our Mind Is the Most Powerful Thing in This Universe - Pallavi Dutta

I even get ideas in my sleep and sometimes they don’t let me sleep. I’m not sure how it happens but some things just click and I start working on it. I’ve always loved playing around with colours, textures, prints & fabrics. I don’t go by any rules, I let my eyes decide what looks the best.

1. Tell us about your background and journey.

I’m from Guwahati, Assam. I’ve done my schooling there and came to Pune for my graduation. I started working while I was in college for some extra pocket money. Back then I thought making money could make me happy.

On that line of thought, I also joined a network marketing business. I worked on it for a few years, made some profits, incurred some losses. Somehow those experiences made me realise money can’t buy me happiness.

Hence, I started exploring my passions. I tried to start a bakery business as I love cooking & baking. I did it for a week but realised I wanted something more to keep myself motivated and stick to it long term.

2. When did you first decide that you wanted to create content and how did you start?

I was always drawn towards fashion. I think that inclination came from my mom because she used to dress me up fashionably even as a kid. In my childhood, I used to hand stitch clothes for my barbie dolls.

Later as a teenager, I started designing some of my clothes and run behind tailors to get the perfect piece. I also designed some outfits for my friends. I never got a professional fashion degree but I knew I wanted to be a part of this industry.

After many years I finally decided to start my fashion blog after my best friend’s wedding in 2019. The first person I spoke to about it was my roommate at that time and she boosted up my confidence.

That’s how my blog - “theflamboyantrush” came into being. In my first blog post, I wrote about looks for wedding functions. I started posting on WordPress as it’s a free platform, now I’ve my independent website - http://theflamboyantrush.com/

3. Who is your favourite blogger and why?

In today’s time, there is a lot of mind-blowing bloggers/content creators who have been a part of this industry for many years now. It’s difficult to choose just one. But there are these two creators who I truly look up to.

First would be Natasha Shrotri, without a doubt. As she is also based out of Pune and I could relate to her posts. She inspired me to create quality content and be consistent with it. She literally has around 5000 posts on her Instagram.

That kind of dedication is a level apart. Initially, when I was clueless about how everything works she helped me with the basics and was kind enough to entertain my doubts and questions. I love how she makes everything look so effortless.

Second would be Komal Pandey. She has come a long way from being a part of pop xo to being an independent creator and loved by 1M odd followers on Instagram. I respect how she chose her niche into fashion and stuck by it. Every day she proves that creativity has no limits.

4. How and where do you find inspiration to churn out content?

Honestly speaking, I draw inspiration from anything and everything. It comes naturally to me. It’s weird but sometimes I even get ideas in my sleep and sometimes they don’t let me sleep. I’m not sure how it happens but some things just click and I start working on it.

I’ve always loved playing around with colours, textures, prints & fabrics. I don’t go by any rules, I let my eyes decide what looks the best. I draw inspiration from nature, my environment, fashion shows, magazines, movies, Pinterest, YouTubers & other fellow bloggers and sometimes from my past self.

I’m a big-time planner, I already have a long list of ideas and looks I’d want to create. For me, being organised makes me think better and in turn, come up with more ideas.

5. What does your typical day look like?

My weekdays & weekends run on different timelines. I’ve a fulltime job as a US recruiter. So on weekdays, I live on US timings. I wake up in the afternoon, start my day with a cup of green tea and get on to my daily chores.

I write, read, watch YouTube videos, attend calls/meetings with brands, plan for upcoming events or plan my upcoming feed, receive PR packages, cook for myself. Then by 6 pm, I get to work till 4am in the morning, currently, I’m working from home.

I make sure I get at least 6 hrs of sleep. But sometimes I also go for early morning shoots after my shift ends and then go to sleep. On weekends, I mostly have some shoots planned in the day. It’s either indoors or outdoors, with a Photographer or by myself.

In the evenings I like to give myself some time to relax. As we don’t have an option of going out these days, I like to call over some close friends, cook at home, watch some series or movies and call it a night.

6. Which is your favourite book and why?

I’m not a typical reader. I’d rather watch videos or listen to a podcast. I’m not a fan of fictional books. I’m usually drawn towards biographies, self-help, success & motivation based books.

My favourite book would be the one that’s a part of my daily routine - The Magic by Rhonda Byrne. It’s a sequel to the book - The Secret. While The Secret teaches us about the law of attraction and power of manifestation, The Magic teaches us how to practically apply that law in our lives.

It consists of 28 activities to be practised over a stretch of 28 days. After completing 28 days, I go back to day 1 and start over. I live by this book because I’ve seen the huge results time and again.

Our mind is the most powerful thing in this universe and if we learn how to control even a tiny percentage of it we can create that ideal life for ourselves.

7. What piece of advice would you like to give to future and aspiring bloggers?

Nowadays there are so many industry experts who are sharing their knowledge over YouTube & Instagram. For someone who is serious about it can learn everything with some online research, that’s how I started off. Personally, I believe in these 5 basic things that can be a strong foundation.
  1. It’s never too late or too early - There will never be a perfect time to start. Even if you’re not confident enough right now, take the first step anyway.
  2. Passion - Choose a niche you’re passionate about. In this line of work, you need to be truly passionate about what you do to stick to it long term.
  3. Patience - You might not see immediate results, it might be slower than you expected. The key is to not get bogged down by it. Rather be patient for the good things to come your way, because sooner or later they will.
  4. Quality & Consistency - Give out quality content, that’s what is going to help you stand out in the crowd. Be consistent because regularity shows seriousness and you owe that to your audience.
  5. Be yourself - Every individual is unique and that’s the best part about being “You”. It’s very easy to get carried away with what others are doing and we often don’t realise that there’s no competition here. Listen to your heart and do what makes you “You”!
