Secret Behind Perfect Smiles With Cosmetic Expert - Dr Krinita Motwani

I have been practising Cosmetic Dentistry for 19 years. Giving my patients a smile they desire, and boosting their self-confidence gives me utmost satisfaction. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing my patients happy with their smiles and feeling confident whenever they smile.

1. Tell us about your background and journey.

I acquired my degree of "Bachelors in Dental Surgery" in 2002 from Government Dental College, Mumbai. Since then, I have devoted myself to high-quality dental work with a special inclination towards Cosmetic Dentistry.

I have always been interested in art and love to paint. Cosmetic dentistry made it possible for me to transform my passion into a career. I have completed the "Advanced Postgraduate course in Aesthetic Dentistry" from Manipal College of Dental Sciences.

I am also an active member of "The Indian Academy of Aesthetic and Cosmetic Dentistry" and the esteemed "American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry".

2. Which is your favourite book, and why?

In recent years one of my favourite books has been The Palace of Illusions by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni because of the beautiful depiction of the Mahabharata from a women’s perspective. Another book among my favourites is The Hungry Tide by Amitav Ghosh. The book impressed me with its attention to detail.

3. How important is a super specialization for cosmetic dentists?

Cosmetic dentistry requires extensive training and only a specialised cosmetic dentist learns technical know-how as well as an eye for detailed esthetics. This training is not offered by standard dental schools and can be obtained only in postgraduate and advanced aesthetic programmes.

Specialists can communicate in a better way with the laboratories because of detailed knowledge of esthetically pleasing smiles. Many general dentists practise cosmetic dentistry, but I think the days of crossing over between general and cosmetic dentistry might be numbered.

New materials, products, and procedures are rapidly developing. I think those who specialize in cosmetic dentistry are more likely to keep current with these changes and implement them into their practices to provide superior esthetics and natural-looking smiles which last longer.

4. Why do people travel from abroad to get the cosmetic treatment done in India?

Cosmetic dentistry in India is a popular treatment among medical tourists
looking forward to improving their smiles and enhancing their appearance. India having a plethora of fascinating destinations for travel clubbed with the reduced treatment cost for cosmetic dental procedures, makes it the ideal hub for tourists alike.

Having said that, the level of cosmetic dentistry practised by some dentists in India is on par with the protocols and advances practised in the United States or European countries, providing excellent cosmetic results without compromise in techniques, materials, etc.

5. Can smile designing be done in one day?

Cosmetic dental procedures like teeth whitening, closing gaps between teeth and restoring chipped teeth can be done under 2 hours in just a single sitting. Patients who want to change the shape, size or shade of their teeth can get direct veneers done which are handcrafted by me and can be done in 4 to 5 hours.

These procedures provide natural aesthetic results that are long-lasting and as easy to maintain as your original teeth.

6. What procedures are included in smile designing?

If your teeth are stained, discoloured, worn, chipped, broken, misaligned, misshapen, or have gaps between them, smile designing can give you a smile crafted, especially for you. Yes, your dream smiles are a reality with modern dental techniques. Hollywood smile? Well, you got it with us!

Smile designing includes a variety of treatments such as teeth whitening which removes stains from the outer layer of your teeth and makes your teeth appear brighter and whiter.

In case you are unhappy with the shade, shape or size of your teeth, dental veneers are the perfect solution. Dental veneers are wafer-thin, custom-made shells of tooth-coloured materials designed to cover the front surface of teeth to improve your appearance.

7. What impact do you want to create in the dental field?

I have been practising Cosmetic Dentistry for 19 years. Giving my patients a smile they desire, and boosting their self-confidence gives me utmost satisfaction. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing my patients happy with their smiles and feeling confident whenever they smile. I wish to keep engineering and delivering the perfect smile for future years to come.
