Never Regret Your Decisions and Always Do What Your Heart Says - Yash Kala

In today's world of rush and run, entertainment plays a major role and we as entertainers comes under the hood of entertainment. Until and unless the world is running after corporate life, entertainers will always have opportunities.

1. Tell us more about your background and journey.

My journey is still sailing in the infinite sea of talent in the world. A guy who was always known for his intelligence in school has now become an Anchor (I still don't know how). I was born and brought up in an open minded Jain nuclear family of Durg.

I have two elder sisters and being the youngest I was always pampered the most. I was lucky enough that I got enough guidance from my sisters and was a bright student in my school time. My mom was a school teacher so she made sure that I always do good in my academics.

But it happens in school that the student who studies nicely, teachers would let them do other things as well like extempore debates, speech, deliver news. Sometimes even flower decoration and rangoli too. I did my first voice-over in 11th and also my first anchoring was in 11th.

Yes, that's where my journey started but it was just a part of extracurricular for me during those days. I secured 89.5% in my 12th CBSE Board which was a huge achievement for me. I got myself admitted to a local engineering college 'SSTC' into Mechanical Engineering. My parents told 'Mechanical' is an evergreen branch.

I wasn't smart enough to understand the importance of branch so I accepted the order and followed it. The story is huge so to keep it short and coming to the turning point of my journey.

I got recognised as an anchor when I auditioned for my college fest anchoring and secured the maximum points, which gave me an opportunity to host the most spectacular event of our fest 'The Ramp Walk' and from then to now, I have hosted more than 500+ shows across the states.

I have hosted live shows beside some of the well known celebs of industry like Mudassar Khan, Hina Khan, Mohit Gaur, DJ Suketu, Street Dancer 3 stars, Olympian Anjali Bhagwat, Sai Tamhankar and many more.

2. When did you first decide you wanted to be an anchor and actor and how did you start?

My decision to become a full fledged anchor is still pending since from last 4 years I am working as a software developer in TCS, so anchoring is still my freelance profession but I am sure the decision will be taken soon once this Covid-19 situation settles down.

But I never stopped anchoring, I am still continuing it with my corporate life. So I am still looking for a great start though I started freelancing during my college times in the year 2015 I guess. It started during the first year of my college when I got an opportunity to audition for my college fest 'SAMVID'.

I just went to give auditions without any preparation but scored the highest points among around 60-70 participants. I was not aware about the result and it came out as hosting the most grand event of the fest 'The Ramp Walk', from there on my interest towards anchoring developed and I hosted for my college fest all 4 years (Nobody else got the opportunity till I was there).

3. Who is your favourite artist and why?

Ayushmann Khurrana. He has such an inspiring journey and without any god father he has made his mark in the industry in almost all characters as an entertainer. You name a profession and he has done that in the entertainment industry. So by all heart its him.

4. Can you throw some light on opportunities one gets as an entertainer?

In today's world of rush and run, entertainment plays a major role and we as entertainers comes under the hood of entertainment. Until and unless the world is running after corporate life, entertainers will always have opportunities. Long back there were only few professions like Engineer, Doctor, CA, etc., but now due to digitisation, an entertainer is the most exciting and opted profession.

From weddings to corporate houses, from cafes to clubs, from streets to malls, an entertainer is present everywhere. So there are a lot of opportunities as an entertainer, but the challenge is you have to make yourself a better entertainer with time, if you want to survive in this industry.

5. Is format training required or can one train themselves purely on the basis of talent?

Life is the best trainer. I won't say training is bad but if you pursue training, it will prepare you in a methodological way. Its a theoretical learning which is different from practical learning. And as per my experience practical training helps you create your own module of trained professional.

6. What piece of advice would you like to give to future and aspiring artists?

I have not achieved enough to advice anyone but still as it's a question I would say, 'Just never regret your decisions and always do what your heart says'. Make your love your life and that's what will lead you to live a happy life.

7. Which is your favourite book and why?

My favourite book is The Monk who sold his Ferrari by Robin Sharma. It was my first book and I loved the way the book keeps on motivating you with each chapter.

'The secret of happiness is simple: find out what you truly love to do and then direct all of your energy towards doing it. Once you do this, abundance flows into your life and all your desires are filled with ease and grace'.

This line from Robin Sharma has inspired me a lot during my life.
