There Is Only One Person You Have to Impress; That Is YOU - Madhur Sharma

Music is a second language to my heart. They say hard work pays off. It sure does.

1. Tell us more about your background and journey. When did you first decide you wanted to pursue music and how did you start?

Music is a second language to my heart. They say hard work pays off. It sure does. I started my music career at the age of 17. Like any other young boy, I had a lot of dreams, with passion in my heart and the world in front of me to conquer. I lost my father when I was 16.

All my dreams came to a halt with the responsibility to take care of two younger sisters and my mother. I started doing free shows to showcase my talent. I used to borrow a guitar from my friends.

I juggled between doing a job at a BPO and my passion to become a successful singer. I worked at radio stations and did odd jobs to pay for my family. Soon after that, I left Indore and came to Mumbai. I knew the road ahead will be a challenge.

I started with staying at a chawl in Nalasopara, I used to travel every day looking for shows and working side by side. After 2 years of struggle, I finally signed a contract with a management company.

I started getting shows. I started playing for clubs, private shows and started singing in concerts. Life ka plane runway se take off hua and things started falling in place.

With so much to give to the world, I worked on a lot of originals also. I created my own team with strugglers looking for a break who are now ruling in their fields.

From where I am now when I look back at my life, I see just one thing that I kept doing. That was taught to me by my parents. Life mein Jo bhi karna hai, poori jaan laga do. (Whatever you do in life, put your 100% in it). Never doubt yourself.

Films end with a happy ending in three hours. Life doesn't. In life, hustle until you feel you've done enough. Believe in yourself and keep going because there is only one person you have to impress; that is YOU.

2. Who is your favourite artist and why?

My favourite artists are Atif Aslam & Vishal Mishra because they inspire me to become a better artist as they struggled a lot and now they have embarked their place in people’s hearts.

3. Can you throw some light on opportunities one gets as a singer?

To be honest, in the music industry there are not very much opportunities. One needs to be patient and keep working on their skills. Because at some point in time, when the opportunity strikes, it’s not small. It is outrageous and you have to hold that and climb up.

4. Is formal training required or can one train themselves purely on the basis of talent?

Just like children need a teacher in the school for education, we require a guru who could teach methods and guide us but at the end of the day, it depends on you how much you practice.

5. Which is your favourite book and why?

My favourite book is Can Love Happen Twice because life is too short and you just can’t be stuck in one place. Eventually, it’s one life and you have to give yourself a second chance.
