What’s a success story without a little bit of chaos and challenge...So, if you are facing a crazy day/week/even a month just remember you can go through it, you have to grow through it and you will get out of it like a champion. You are not alone!
1. Tell us about your background and journey. When did you first decide that you wanted to create content and how did you start?
I believe that unicorns are real and strongly feel I am one!
I am the title winner of Femina Mrs. Stylista West 2018, a Fashion and Beauty Blogger, an Image Consultant and was a Kindergarten Teacher.
My style icon is Iris Apfel, a Fashionista at 97 and my style mantra is 'Go Bold or Go home'! Fashion has always inspired me. Ever since childhood, fashion magazines have been my favourite go-to “novels” if you may.
I always felt that I had that ‘out-of-box-it’ factor to give back to the industry. While growing, up I wasn’t always this confident and had real self-esteem issues.
Time passed by, I got married, got a job as a Pre-school teacher and a few years later I enrolled myself in an image consulting course. That opened my eyes to the world and brought back my long lost love for fashion.
Post that course, I worked on setting up an online website especially for local boutiques but that project didn’t see the light of day. Over that course of time I sat on the idea of fashion blogging, I went back to teaching again and that passion, the zeal just eluded; until very recently I just said to myself, “That’s enough!
When people around me are working 3-4 jobs why can’t you manage two!?” So, I began my journey of blogging on Instagram and then went on to set up my WordPress blog account.
Now, I create content which basically includes my quirky-edgy take on fashion, skincare and makeup reviews and tips and a whole lot of lifestyle content on my page.
Being brought up in Bombay, I never saw hustling as exhausting. The city, bustling with artists and new entrepreneurs, is a living example of- success and it isn’t always about money, it is about doing what your heart is in. I use all the ‘in-between-time-slots’ such as travelling to work or any free time to curate Instagram posts.
On weekends, I have juggled between photoshoots and events, on the weekdays, I do my planning and blog post writing. I really feel that if you’re ready to push your boundaries and get out of the comfort zone, it is manageable to live all your dreams and passions.
My friend gave my name for the 'Femina Mrs. Stylista Pageant'.
After a long wait, one day I got a call from them for an audition and I passed it!!! This was a first of a kind Style pageant organised by Femina, a first for me- like I had never ever participated in anything that would mean I had to face the public on a centre stage and to add to everything first- I was contestant number 1...
All throughout the contest I never had thought I could win and on the finale day, I was so overwhelmed with joy...I can’t express it!
This was the first time I have ever won something in my life and something beauty-fashion related which if I had told my younger self-that believe in yourself you can do it, she wouldn’t have believed me either!
And now after giving another 3 years to school, I have finally dived full-fledged into content creation and starting out with my Image consulting business as well!
2. Is vlogging and YouTube content creation a financially sustainable career?
Yes, but you have got to work really really hard AND be patient before you start to earn that dream six-figure income!
3. Who is your favourite creator and why?
Honestly, I can't pick one, everyone is good at what they do!
4. How and where do you find inspiration to churn out content?
Inspiration is everywhere honestly, it does get difficult, I wouldn't deny that but, then at such times I would like to say take a break, do something that inspires you, like in my case, I love dancing and not many people know that... but just express yourself in ways that make you feel motivated and inspiration comes along!
5. What does your typical day look like?
Wake up, meditate, try to squeeze in a workout, shoot/record content, edit in the evenings/ or shoot and then edit the next day, upload content, answer emails/DMs and then hit Netflix.
6. What piece of advice would you like to give to future and aspiring creators?
Looking back at how far I have come, my heart fills up with nothing more than just gratitude!
Aim high, work even harder! There will always be challenges and you have got to face them. Life on the gram might seem like a cakewalk but, trust me it’s super chaotic behind the scenes.
And what’s a success story without a little bit of chaos and challenge...So, if you are facing a crazy day/week/even a month just remember you can go through it, you have to grow through it and you will get out of it like a champion. You are not alone!
7. How would you distinguish the term blogger from an influencer?
Oh this my favourite one, A blogger is someone who has a blog page of her own, and an influencer is someone who has a certain number of following, influences her community, through social media.. basically long and short of it is...A BLOGGER CAN BE AN INFLUENCER BUT AN INFLUENCER IS NOT A BLOGGER..!
8.Is it financially sustainable to be an influencer today?
Well, in times like this, every business, everyone employed has taken a hit financially, and so have we...!
9. What do you think influences consumer behaviour?
Authenticity, transparency AND genuine love for the product!
10. What is your idea of success or your mantra in life?
In the end, surround yourself with people who support you and value your hard work. If it wasn’t for family, my husband and my friends I wouldn’t be where I am.
11.How can someone become a successful social media influencer?
I did start my journey as a blogger late and waited long till I found the right time to, found the answers to begin, but, honestly there’s never a right time, never all the answers handed to you on a platter! You just gotta start...it’s never too late!
Success honestly only comes with your wholehearted efforts, I know it's cliche but it is a fact...So, go on get outta that comfort zone of yours and pursue your dreams harder than ever before
12. Which is your favourite book and why?
Current one: THE COMMUNICATION BOOK. 44 IDEAS FOR BETTER CONVERSATIONS EVERYDAY BY MIKAEL KROGERUS & ROMAN TSCHAPPELER!
