Steps To Fix A Disabled iPad

When you enter the wrong passcode for many times, most of the electronic devices get locked and insist you to wait for a few minutes before re-entering your passcode again. In the case of an iPad, you will see a message that your iPad is disabled.

It happens quite often when you have a child in your house or bought the device recently and forgot to write down your password. During these events, the iOS will assume that someone is trying to break into your system and disable it.

What Happens If You Forget The Passcode

Apple support says, ‘if you enter the wrong passcode too many times, you’ll see a message that your iPad is disabled. If you can’t remember the passcode, you need to erase your iPad which deletes your data and settings, including the passcode’.

By doing this, you tend to lose all the information that’s stored in the iPad. So, here are a few tips to avoid this irreversible devastation.

Try Backing Up In iTunes

  1. The first step to do is to connect your iOS device to your computer using a USB cable and open iTunes.
  2. A symbol of the tablet or the device will appear at the left – top of your computer.
  3. When you click on the device, it’ll open a screen where backup is available.
  4. Click “Backup now” and wait until the sync is done.

If you are able to back up your passcode on your computer, the work is done.

Do You Have A Previous Backup?

If the aforementioned trick doesn’t work, you have to reset the passcode by restoring the device. This step will only work when you’ve already synced and have a backup already on your computer.

  1. Follow the four steps listed above.
  2. When you select Restore, a pop up will ask ‘Restore backup from’, select your iPad’s name from the scroll.
  3. Select the device name from iTunes and click on the immediate previous backup.
  4. Wait till the restoration process is completed.

When the process is done, all your photos, files and emails are back for your use.

Restore By Recovery Mode And Reset The Passcode

If you have never connected your iPad to your PC before, then this is the only method. By trying this, you will erase the device unless you have an iCloud backup.

  1. Let the USB port be connected to the computer but not to your device.
  2. Turn off your iPad and press the sleep/wake button until a red light appears. Now, slide the slider and wait for the device to shut down.
  3. Press and hold the Home button while connecting the USB cable to the device and now the device will turn on.
  4. Press on the home button till you see the ‘Connect to iTunes’ screen.
  5. iTunes will send an alert stating a device is found for recovery. Click OK to accept the recovery.
  6. Set up your device by following the prompts in Setup Assistant.
  7. If you used iCloud for backup, sign in to iCloud to restore from a backup.
  8. “Choose backup” from the available backups.
