Ljubomic Milic - All The People With Traditional Backgrounds Are Very Successful (Senior Modeler)

Ljubomic Milic

When I shared the idea about the project among friends I was told that I will need a team to help me with it, and they were right it was too ambitious for one person. That didn’t discourage me and I kept moving forward. I had my vision about the project and decided to spend at least one hour a day toward my goal. I overcame that by doing small steps.

1. Tell us about your background and journey.

I was born in former Yugoslavia and moved to Canada in 1998. My journey started in traditional arts particularly drawing and painting where I started to show my talent as a child.
Growing up I had a huge obsession with video games and cartoons which shaped me into the person I am today.

Latter in my life computer graphics pulled my attention. I took a part-time course in 3D and fell in love with it. Immediately I sign up for a full time and got my diploma in 3D Animation and VFX. Currently, I am still working full time in the animation industry, and in my free time, I develop video games.

2. What exactly is a modeler?

A modeler is a person working in the movie, animation, or video game industry. The main job is to create digital 3D assets such as characters, props, and environments using a computer. Smaller companies require a modeler to do additional tasks including UV mapping, texturing, and shading.

3. What are the important skills one should have to be a successful Modeler?

In my opinion, it is drawing, understanding shape vs form. This is something I was told when I got started and I did notice through my career all the people with traditional backgrounds are very successful.

4. What has been your biggest challenge that you faced and how did you overcome that?

My biggest challenge I have faced so far is my personal project. A video game called “Bram the Toymaker”. This is something I’m still working on and hopefully, it will be finished in the next month or two. I started to work on this project in my free time back in 2015.

5. Tell us about your most successful project.

Well, I would say that would be a personal project I mentioned in my previous answer. Although, it is not completed yet, and I didn’t share it with the rest of the world to see actually how successful it will be. In my eyes, I see it as a huge success because it will be completed!

6. Which is your favourite book and why?

I would say The Art of War by Sun Tzu. It teaches you how to use intelligence and how to win. Wisdom from this book can be applied and used in our modern lives.
