Emergence of Education For Adults In India

The world is an open school and every person is a learner. That is because education gives man an eye to knowledge, capable of identifying truth. The real power also awakens our sleeping powers and provides them with the ability and motivation to transform into action.

Thus, in the opinion of Indian mystics, the first 25 years of our age are considered suitable for education, but the wise say and believe that whenever and wherever it is found, it should be accepted and appreciated. But today's Indian public mind has understood this truth for a long time.

Due to unawareness, there is still a lot of uneducated people among all the young people here today, thus the importance and need of education is being well understood.

Efforts are being made to make the education and expansion of every village at all levels, even literate and educated people of old age, a strong evidence of this fact.

Preface

Education is very important and necessary in human life. Uneducated people are always unsuccessful in achieving the ultimate goal of life. Through education, a person can understand his civilization, values and be able to develop and protect it.

Education is the key to success in life, which plays its important role in all areas of social, political, economic and religious side.

Need for Adult Education

Due to non-proliferation of education in India, most Indians were illiterate. Only those people were educated who had all the facilities. Most of the older people lived their lives in some way or the other without being illiterate.

The important reason for the lack of education in subordinate India was that foreign persecution was not in favor of educating Indians, only those who were enslaved to British rule and believed in them.

Consideration for Adult Education

But when India became independent from British rule, our leaders first paid special attention to education and in 1948, Radhakrishna Commission was formed, which made important suggestions for higher education.

Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi also paid special attention to education. He was of the opinion that if every educated person in India decides to make an illiterate literate, illiteracy will be eradicated from India very soon.

Today, many adult education programs are doing important work at the government and non-government level. Prominent among them are Indian Adult Education Association (Delhi), Vidha Mandir (Udaipur), Saakshar Niketan (Lucknow) and Literacy House (Hyderabad).

Apart from this, adult education programs are also being run in other cities of India.

Meaning of Adult Education

Adult is a person who has remained illiterate due to lack of education during childhood. In ancient times, writing and reading and teaching general knowledge to such illiterate persons was considered the purpose of adult education.

But in modern times, it is not just literacy to teach alphabets and teach simple addition and subtraction.

Today, special emphasis is being laid on practical education in adult education. Practical education refers to the abilities by which individuals can gain economic benefits and social education in practical life.

Adult Education and Social Education

Adult education will prove useful for us only when it is based on the process of social development. Adult people are different from boys and girls, their teaching method also differs from the teaching method of boys.

In fact, in education, a backward country like India has an absolute need for adult education. The government is making significant efforts in this situation. Special importance is being given to adult education under the national service schemes run by the government in the colleges.
