My IG page @veggie.nomads spans across everything that I love. You’ll find a little something about innovative homemade vegetarian dishes, restaurant food reviews, travel, and art.
1. Tell us about your background and journey.
I was born and brought up in the quaint little town of Sikkim in the North-Eastern part of India. I spent most of my life there and moved to Dubai in 2004 after I got married. Since then life has been a roller coaster and mostly revolved around the job, kids and my home.
I have always loved two things in life – trying new recipes and spending time with my family. After I left my job after my second kid was born, I have been experimenting with vegetarian cooking and eggless baking.
It’s been a great experience and I am thankful that my husband always pushed me to give it a try. If it had been left to my decision, I would always say that “I never found the time”.
2. What led you to start your page on Instagram and what is it about?
My IG page @veggie.nomads spans across everything that I love. You’ll find a little something about innovative homemade vegetarian dishes, restaurant food reviews, travel, and art.
Blogging started in the year 2020 when we all were in lockdown stage. Everyone has their “EUREKA” moment and it came for me when I decided to turn my passion into something bigger. Something that could help others in their journey and could add a little more flavour to my life.
I started blogging about all my experiments (the good, the bad, the ugly, all of it, haha!!). I tried to keep it as real as possible so that anyone and everyone could relate to it. Blogging opened new avenues for me and being a foodie family, we started getting invitations for reviewing restaurants.
3. Which is your favourite cuisine and dish?
Been a vegetarian sometimes limits your options, but I still love trying new cuisines. I am a big fan of Italian & North Indian cuisine, specially Chaat (an Indian savoury snack). Oh, how can I forget momos and chow mien.
I just miss the authentic ones that we get in Sikkim. Being in Dubai for 18 years now, I have fallen in love with the Middle Eastern cuisine as well.
4. Which restaurants/food joints would you recommend to food lovers?
I can recommend only the restaurants where I have tried vegetarian food. My first love has always been Bikanerwala for North Indian fast food. But recently we visited a joint called the Chaat Coffee Depot and they serve excellent chaats, sizzlers & momos.
Other than the ones I mentioned above, there are many restaurants which serve excellent food like Hitchki, Indian Summer, Gazebo and the list goes on. It depends on what cuisine you are in the mood for.
5. What makes you appreciate a particular dish or a restaurant and talk about it on your blog?
I think three things are important for me whenever I recommend any restaurant or eatery in my blog. Quality of food, presentation, and hospitality of the staff. I believe, three most ingredients for any restaurant to run successfully.
I pay close attention to these three factors and try to keep it as real as possible so that anyone relying on my review always has the best experience.
6. Which is your favourite book and why?
I have always loved reading books and articles. One of my many favourites is “The Kite Runner” by Khaled Hosseini. I recently read the book “Ikigai” by Albert Liebermann and Hector Garcia.
It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that I instantly fell in love with this book as it reveals the secrets to their longevity and happiness.
7. What is the future of influencing on social media going to look like according to you?
I think that the future of influencing on social media will depend on real experiences rather than paid advertisements and campaigns. The viewers have become very conscious and aware in terms of the content they want to see on their feeds.
They are more interested in experiences rather than brands. In my opinion, real and true experiences are what will matter the most.
