Amit Varma - I’ve Realised That Plan B Never Works If You Are In Love With Plan A (Actor)

Amit Varma

If you do something you don’t genuinely love then one day you will feel incomplete no matter what you become.

1. Tell us about your background and journey.

Well, very few people in media and acting know that I actually belong to a very big film family of the earlier times namely Varma pictures.

My uncles were big producers under the banner Varma films and made some huge hits like Patanga (Mere Piya Gaye Rangoon song), Badal starring Prem Naath as the hero, Aurat, Budtameez starring Shammi Kapoor among a lot more but then they gave up the banner by the end of 80’s so I didn’t reap any benefits of being from a film background though my father consciously stayed out of it and became a businessman.

My journey is still going on so I can’t talk in past tense only... it’s been great... I’ve been new n raw n naive when I started but my hardworking attitude paved the way for me getting some good work and then it followed with great fame where I kinda took it easy and for granted to then realising what I’m doing is so fortunate and it’s my responsibility to be good enough, to then getting back to being committed, learning more and more growing as a person coz that’s what’s needed most to be a good actor.

All In all, it’s been a great journey with so many lessons which have made me wiser as a person and as an actor.

2. Did you ever think or dream of being an actor?

Yes, I always kinda did somewhere in the back of my mind since childhood ... but I never realised it until later.

3. How can one approach their career and have the confidence and belief to become an actor?

Most importantly you have to ask yourself do u really love acting or are you getting into it for the glamour, fame or money part ... coz if u do something u don’t genuinely love then one day u will feel incomplete no matter what u become.

If u do love acting then just be committed to it to become better each day in all the aspects .. not just making a body, but learning from actors, doing workshops, seeing good quality work and at the same time working on ur looks and also ur spiritual self.

4. If not this, what would you be doing?

I’ve tried doing other things as a lesson to learn and I’ve realised that Plan B never works if u r in Love with Plan A :-)

5. For a complete outsider with inroads, what advice would you like to give?

Same advice as mentioned above how to have the belief ... keep working hard on yourself and be the Quality and one day or the other u will get what you want no one can stop one if he’s giving his all.

6. What is your mantra of success?

Growth, Hard work, dedication and manifestation

7. Which is your favourite book and why?

Currently, Obstacle is the Way by Ryan Holiday, coz it makes me realise and understand how obstacles in life can be turned into opportunities.
