Siddhesh Lad - My All-Time Favorite Batsman Is Rohit Sharma Because I Have Seen His Journey From School Cricket (Played in IPL for Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Night Riders)

It takes a lot of sacrifice to be there at that level, from missing the most important family functions to working day & night on the ground and gym, to following the same routine daily and without fail, then lastly the diet.


1. Tell us about your upbringing, journey & background.

I was born and raised in Mumbai. I come from a middle-class family. I studied in Swami Vivekananda international school, Borivali, where my father was my school cricket coach. I Had interest in various sports but my father always wanted me to play and focus on cricket.


2. At what age did you start playing cricket and how much did you train?

I started playing when I was young around 7-8 years old. The first game I played for my school was when I was 10 years old, in a Harris shield under 16 match. Later, my dad sent me to be coached under Pravin Amre Sir at Shivaji Park Gymkhana for me to get that exposure and compete against the better players and team in Mumbai.


3. How did you rise to start playing in the IPL?

It is a very long process to be a part of IPL and national teams. You need to perform well in the first class and list the games. From there, you get noticed and picked in the IPL team. But some players are very fortunate to get it easy.




4. What are your future plans?

I always and will want to represent the country as every other cricketer aims and play for, in his career. That is my ultimate goal in life.


5. Who is your all time favorite batsman and bowler?

My all-time favorite batsman is Rohit Sharma because I have seen his journey from school cricket to being one of the best in the world cricket. And my favorite bowlers is Shardul Thakur because his journey is also very inspiring to me.


6. How can youngsters make it to the national level and IPL? What is the level of commitment required?

Cricket in India is very competitive, thousands of people play and only 15 players gets to be in the squad for the national team. Yes, it takes a lot of sacrifice to be there at that level, from missing the most important family functions and working day & night on the ground and gym, following the same routine daily without fail, and lastly the diet. Every single thing counts if you want to reach at that level.


7. If not cricket, then what would you be doing?

I cannot imagine life without cricket but if not cricket I would be doing something related to fashion.
