About the Movie
Notting Hill directed by Roger Michell is a meet-cute romantic comedy movie. It stars Hugh Grant who is a Bookshop owner named William Thacker and Julia Roberts who is a world famous actress, Anna Scott (Just like Julia Roberts!).
Like any meet-cute story, they meet first when Anna Scott enters William’s bookshop, and he immediately recognizes her. Their love story starts when Thacker bumps into Anna later and spills orange juice over her.
Politely enough Thacker offers Anna to come over to his place to clean herself up. Anna surprisingly enough kisses William on her way out, which begins the complicated relationship of Anna Scott and William Thacker.
The movie shows us how complicated it is to be in a relationship with a famous personality. Anna Scott’s lifestyle revolves around saving herself from paparazzis and interviewers while William Thacker is just a bloke from Notting Hill.
Their love story is interrupted by many intruders such as an unexpected film star boyfriend, paparazzis, etc. Anyhow, none of those intruders come between this feel-good story. It has a mix of comedy, tragedy and romance which will definitely make the viewer go through an emotional roller coaster.
Finally, the ending is nicely structured with an obvious happy ending where the two go on to lead happy lives.
Notting Hill is the perfect romantic comedy to light up the mood. Roger Michell does a very good job with the storytelling and has a firm grasp over the structure of the film.
