One prominent theme in the show is that of the past and also of the fact that the truth always comes out. Sophie murders Chris to hide a secret but ends up hiding more than one secret.

Moreover, all the lies and the deception are of no use because in the end the truth did come out and she has to go to jail, abandoning her family and her sick child. Not to mention her relationship with Tom.
