A treat for anyone who loves to binge watch a good suspense thriller, Safe is the story of a bunch of teenagers, living in a gated community who are affected gravely by the secrets that their folks and their neighbors keep.

The mysterious disappearance of Jenny Delaney, played by Amy James- Kelly , leaves her father Tom Delaney (played by Michael C. Hall) understandably out of sorts. Soon the police discover the body of Jenny’s boyfriend Chris Chahal (played by Freddie Thorp) leaving the Chahals devastated.
Town’s detective sergeant Sophie Mason (played by Amanda Abbington) investigates the murder and the disappearnce along with Detective Emma Castle (played by Hannah Arterton).
While the police work, Tom carries out his own investigation, landing in trouble a few times and finally uncovering secrets about the people close to him that he would rather leave hidden.

Born on January 4th, 1962, Harlan Coben is an American writer whose specialties are mystery novels and thrillers. The plots of his novels often involve mysteries from an unresolved past and have multiple twists.
He has written some thirty-one novels and has received many awards for his work. He was awarded the 1996 Anthony Award in the category “Best Paperback Original” for his novel ‘Deal Breaker’.
About the Show
The show begins with the preparations of a barbecue where the families of a gated community in a town in England. Tom Delaney, who is a widower, is having an affair with the Detective Sophie Mason, who is separated from her husband.
Tom’s daughter Jenny is not happy with his affair. The next morning the town wakes up to the news of the disappearance of Jenny Delaney, who went to a party at her friend Sia Marshall.
Tom looks for his daughter and failing to find her, goes to the police. Zoe Chahal is accused of having an affair with a student and is in custody. While all this happens, the Marshalls take care of Chris Chahal’s body, who was discovered dead by Sia at the party.
The plot thickens and many secrets unfold, involving Tom’s deceased wife Rachel. As Tom frantically looks or her daughter, Sophie investigates Chris Chahal’s murder. Jojo Marshall, Sia’s father confesses to the murder, trying to protect his family.
Emma Castle, another detective, discovers that Jojo couldn’t have murdered Chris as the timings do not match.
In the midst of all this chaos, the viewers come across many secrets that the characters hide and at last Sophie and Tom save Jenny from Rachel’s ex-boyfriend Archie, who wanted to kill Jenny because she knew about the fire Rachel, Archie, Sophie and a few others had caused back when they were in high-school.
Tom puts two and two together and discovers that it was Sophie who had murdered Chris because he knew the secret about the fire and was threatening to frame her.Tom confronts Sophie and asks her to accept the charge. Sophie does so, however reluctantly and goes to jail.
Themes Involved
One prominent theme in the show is that of the past and also of the fact that the truth always comes out. Sophie murders Chris to hide a secret but ends up hiding more than one secret.
Moreover, all the lies and the deception are of no use because in the end the truth did come out and she has to go to jail, abandoning her family and her sick child. Not to mention her relationship with Tom.

The Bottom Line
‘Safe’ has drama, suspense and thrill. It has murder, affairs and mysterious disappearances. It does make for a good weekend binge watch With only eight episodes of approximately forty minutes each it won’t even seem like a drab and for all those reasons I suggest this show.
