I think as a singer, in today's time, you have great opportunities. You can have your own commercialized YouTube channel, an Instagram handle that gets you a lot of paid promotions, playback opportunities, composing and producing your own songs, and the list goes on.
1. Tell us more about your background and journey.
My Journey started way back when I was in class 9th and used to sing randomly in the school van while going back home. My friends figured that I could sing well and pushed me to sing for a school event. Stage fright was at its peak however the response from the schoolmates calmed me down and at the end of the performance, they all were standing and clapping for me.
That boosted me up to polish this hobby which is inculcated by my parents. I kept performing for school events gaining confidence with every performance and then eventually learned guitar in 12th Std that pushed me even further to take this up commercially.
2. When did you first decide you wanted to pursue music and how did you start?
This was during my graduation days when I actually thought of pursuing it seriously. I had a band in place and we used to perform for various college events then. We did our first commercial gig which was attended by around 250 people. All of them had bought the passes and attended the show.
This was the start of it. Later, I started doing solo gigs, was a part of various events on and off-air, also started a YouTube channel which started off pretty well however, I couldn't devote much time to it due to my MBA. I was posted in Jaipur for my first job along with that, I kept doing gigs. For three years, I did over 200 gigs in and around the city. Since then it has been going pretty well for me, slow and steady just how I want it to be.
3. Who is your favorite artist and why?
I love Arijit Singh. I have watched him grow since the time he was a part of Fame Gurukul. His journey is very inspiring. Moreover, his humility is more attractive. He is a complete musician with a strong turf and that is why I look up to him.
4. Can you throw some light on opportunities one gets as a singer?
I think as a singer, in today's time, you have great opportunities. You can have your own commercialized YouTube channel, an Instagram handle that gets you a lot of paid promotions, playback opportunities, composing and producing your own songs, and the list goes on.
5. Is format training required or can one train themselves purely on the basis of talent?
Yes. formal training is definitely required and you can always learn by yourself, however, personally, I will recommend that it should be learned through professionals only. This way it ensures more discipline and a guided way making the whole process a lot more easy and quick.
6. What piece of advice would you like to give to future and aspiring artists?
The one piece of advice that I like to follow myself is to be grounded and keep working on the art. Don't do it to impress people, do it only if it impresses you!
7. Which is your favorite book and why?
I am not an avid reader but someone introduced me to this book called The Secret 5 years back. I read it and tried to follow certain things it said. It worked for me or maybe I just started thinking in a more positive way after reading it.
