1. Tell us more about your background and journey.

I was born and brought up in Sangam City, Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. I’m a vocalist, guitarist, lyricist, and music composer. I have been making music since my childhood. My talent was discovered initially when I was a gymnast at the age of 8 years when my gymnast teacher Mr. Arjun Sihani identified my potential as a budding singer. My parents also felt encouraged to promote my vocal skills and helped me commence my journey into the world of music.

2. When did you first decide you wanted to pursue music and how did you start?

Due to my parents’ encouragement, I was enrolled in Prayag Sangeet Samiti, Prayagraj, which is one of the topmost institutions of music in India. That was only the beginning of many more new opportunities and possibilities to emerge. My musical journey began with my selection in Saregamapa Lil Champs (2007) progressing to Rising Star Top 100 (2016) and then reaching The Voice Top 100 (2016).

I landed my first work in a Web Series as the Music Producer in February 2020 which was titled “Simran: The Lost Soul” and has been produced by the renowned Sweety Walia and Vipul Tiwary. Having performed at more than 500 live events, I have gathered the love and affection of all the amazing music lovers I have come across. I am also currently working on originals, which I hope to release soon in some months.

3. Who is your favorite artist and why?

My favorite artist is the renowned Late Mohd Rafi Sahab whose music inspires and enlightens me each and every day. His evergreen and soulful style of singing is enough to bring light and joy to everything that touches it. His song, “Ehsaan Tera Hoga Mujh Par” is one of my most favorite songs and I love humming to the beautiful music of this song.

4. Can you throw some light on opportunities one gets as a singer?

It is interesting to note that musicians do not get opportunities randomly, they have to look for them. Being a musician has a lot of ups and downs attached to it, there are days when you have no opportunities at all, and there are other days when people are loving you so much that you breathe and sing music each and every day.

My parents made sure that I am consistent with my Riyaz every day which made me confident enough to sing and perform in front of everybody. The opportunities in this field are varied, you can choose to be a YouTuber and showcase your music to the world using the open platform or you can perform at events and do gigs or you can form a band. Consistency will bring you more and more chances of showcasing your talent to the world and monetize it as well.

5. Is formal training required or can one train themselves purely on the basis of talent?

I believe there is no linear path to becoming a musician. I know people who have not received official training and can still perform mesmerizingly. I also know people who have got formal training and practice every day to improve their skills. According to my, it’s more about what particular skill the individual wants to use as their USP.

A person who has strong vocal skills can improvise their vocal abilities to become a singer and also practice other skills simultaneously. Someone who is good at playing the guitar can focus primarily on the instrument and can form a band with a singer. These skills are very subjective and it all depends on the individual itself.

6. What piece of advice would you like to give to future and aspiring artists?

To aspiring musicians, I would like to say that, if you truly believe in the power of music and if you think that you can be a source of bringing joy and peace to the world through your musical skills, then never stop making music consistently and one day you will reach a point when you can’t keep away from music.

As a musician, I have kept myself motivated throughout my journey and I have seen my struggles as a challenging learning curve that helps me grow every day. The challenges you face will only make you stronger, you just have to develop a growth mindset and continue working on your skills. Enjoy the process and see each day as a new opportunity.

7. Which is your favorite book and why?

I am not an avid reader hence, I don’t have a favorite book. I am more of a visual person who enjoys watching movies. One of my most favorite movies is Shawshank Redemption as I find the plot quite interesting and thought-provoking.
