Akshatha Janardhanan - Sometimes It Takes a Long Time to Get the Right Thing (Qatar Based Blogger)

The first and foremost thing you need to do is to create a particular niche of your interest. Then define your audience what your niche is about, let the audience see and decide whether to follow you and if your page is interesting or influencing them, gradually you see that they start following you. Always try to post relevant contents on your page.

Be regular and consistent always. Try to engage with your audience by asking questions or interacting with them in posts and stories. Also, use appropriate hashtags for each post that you post so that it reaches a wider audience.

Tell us about your background and journey.

I was born in Abu Dhabi (UAE), a housewife, mother of 2 boys, hailing from Kerala, India and now settled in Qatar for the past 10 years.
Back home at my native place in Kannur, Kerala, we are a family of 5 members - a Father, a mother who is settled in Kerala from Abu Dhabi for the past 9 years, a grandmother and a 4 years younger brother who is working as a Senior Animation Designer in Bangalore.

I did my schooling and UG from my hometown, Kannur - Kerala. I did my UG and PG in Biotechnology from Chinmaya Arts & Science College, Kannur, Kerala & PSG College of Arts & Science College, Coimbatore - Tamil Nadu.

During my childhood, I always wished to become an air hostess, but then later on I realised that to work in that profession, we need a minimum height, which I didn’t have ( I am short ), so after that, I never thought of that. And when I was studying in college, I had in mind whatever job I get in future, I will be independent! I always loved to work, be an independent woman.

After I finished my PG, I also did a short term 8-month course on Clinical Research in Lotus Clinical Research Academy, Bangalore and worked as a trainee as a Clinical Research Associate for 3 months in one of the leading clinical research companies in Bangalore. I was really happy during those times, as I was earning on my own and it was such a great feeling since it was my very first job. Soon after that, I got married and I had to move to Qatar.

I moved to Qatar in 2011 and I had no clue or no idea what my future was going to be! But still, I had a strong determination to get into any job somewhere very soon, I tried a lot in search of many jobs, also advertised in newspapers, but because of my lack of experience, I couldn't get any good job here in Qatar. Between all these years I enjoyed exploring the new places in Qatar. Since I was not getting any jobs here, I started being active in my social media accounts. And I also joined many good communities where I got to meet many talented people around the world.

Gradually I started having a passion for fashion ( OOTD ) styling and photography. So during our weekend outings, I almost try to take a few pictures of my outfit and my husband was the one who helped me click good quality pictures for me. He supported me a lot in this journey, and also encouraged me to take it to the next level. This is where I myself thought why not start a blog page or share my pictures and thoughts in my social accounts. So I started to learn and research more on how to start a blog and was also inspired by seeing a few other blog pages.

Being a mother, I had very little time to do something for myself at home. As everyone knows, a housewife or a mother has huge responsibilities to take care of their family and at the same be with your kids and engage with their activities, do the household chores etc. Initially, it was really difficult to do something as I planned, but later on, I started planning my schedule for the day and did my things accordingly.

I love to live a healthy lifestyle, so I prioritize my things a bit early and simultaneously do my other work as per the schedule on time.

What led you to start your page on Instagram, and what is it about?

Well, I had never thought of blogging on Instagram! Initially, I had a private account on Instagram and Facebook where I used to share only my family pictures whenever I go out with my family. And it was not regular though!
And in 2019, I created a separate blog page on Instagram with the name 'Mrs.ashisai' where I started having the interest to share good contents on Instagram to share with my followers.

My page is all about a motherhood journey, lifestyle, fashion, parenting, travel and a few cooking recipes. I am a person who always loves fashion, always looks up to different styles which are comfortable yet classy and always tries to create my own styles with whatever I wear. It gives me confidence - if you look good, you feel good inside. The thing that I enjoy about fashion is getting to express myself, I believe a lot of people love fashion because it is about reflecting their personality through what they wear.

I also love travelling and exploring different places and cultures and would love to visit so many good places in future ( have shortlisted a few of them on my bucket - list ) and have a great adventure with my family. The next thing I enjoy at home is cooking and whenever I am in a good mood, I try to cook different recipes because my family loves to try different food.

Since I am a mother of 2 beautiful kids aged 8 years and 1 year; I also share some of my easy helpful hacks on my page, kids recipes and a few parenting tips as well, which would be helpful for the new mothers out there.

Nowadays it has become so common that after marriage or once you have kids, most of the women think that she is only meant to look after her family, do only the household chores and nothing else or they think that they are not capable of doing anything else rather take responsibility for her family. So I wanted to share all my experiences and my motherhood journey through my page and motivate other mothers that it is possible to do anything that they wish for! There are no limits for anything in this world for a woman.

If a woman has a strong desire to do something or if she has got any talent, social media is a great platform to showcase her talents and to share her work with the public. If you are sincere, talented and if you have got your family support, you can become a great successful entrepreneur in life.

How would you distinguish the term blogger from an influencer?

To me, a blogger is someone who shares about their day-to-day activities. Their everyday tasks became content for their page, where they would write their opinions or suggestions in the form of stories, photos, and videos.
Blogging has now become one of the most popular ways of communicating and spreading information and news. Blogs can be used in many ways such as for personal use, business, news, and networking.

An Influencer is someone who promotes brands to their social media followers on channels such as Instagram, Facebook or TikTok. Influencers have the ability to reach very specific audiences and they can influence others buying decisions. For example, by following a particular niche, they gain a huge number of followers and they can influence many people through their page for any kind of product launch/promotions, event promotions etc.

Is it financially sustainable to be an influencer today?

Yes, it would be financially sustainable to be an influencer today.
Survival of the fittest goes with every field of work in ‘today's world. As is the trend with many people trying to be influencers, the best ones are always outstanding and sought out who would find the situation right in question.

What do you think influences consumer behaviour?

Very simply - put in your trust, quality and dedication.
An honest analysis and review of a consumer product by ourselves first and making a judgement to present it or not builds up a way towards trust from consumers.

When one presents only quality products, the consumer automatically redirects their attention towards us from others.
Dedicating ourselves to the success of a product would definitely see success in the end.

What is your idea of success or your mantra in life?

My idea of a success mantra in life would be very simple - Success does not come in easy ways, life throws you very hard and difficult challenges. You need to fight all those tough tasks and you need to constantly work hard on them!
Have big dreams, be dedicated to whatever you do in your life, and have a strong determination to achieve your goal !!

How can someone become a successful social media influencer?

The first and foremost thing you need to do is to create a particular niche of your interest. Then define your audience what your niche is about, let the audience see and decide whether to follow you and if your page is interesting or influencing them, gradually you see that they start following you. Always try to post relevant contents on your page. Be regular and consistent always. Try to engage with your audience by asking questions or interacting with them in posts and stories. Also, use appropriate hashtags for each post that you post so that it reaches a wider audience.

Try to collaborate with other influencers with a similar niche. When you have a good genuine number of followers and you have high-quality content, different brands start approaching you for collaborations. It can be either for paid or for barter collaborations. Over time, you gain a huge number of followers and they start to trust your valuable opinions and suggestions you say about the particular brand or product and later on, you get lots of opportunities to work with many other good brands in future as well.

Sometimes it takes a long time to get the right collaboration and to gain good followers, but don’t worry - all you need is to have patience, take things a bit slow, be very true to yourself and the work you do and post quality contents which would be useful for your followers.

Which is your favourite book, and why?

Well, there's nothing specific, because I am not a good reader, but whichever book I get to read and if it’s an interesting one, I read it.
