Problems Faced by the Tribes in India

Tribal communities are scattered in all the states of India all tribes are having same characteristics and problems they have their own culture and Lifestyle. a

After independence, some changes and development have been taken place but still expected success could not cover by them of world's indigenous peoples has its origin in the United Nation general assembly resolution number 49/ 214 of 23rd December 1994; marking the first meeting of United Nation working group on indigenous populations on the promotion and protection of Human Rights on August 9th 1982 the day was observed as the International Day of indigenous people across the world.

To promote and safeguard the interest culture customs and tradition of indigenous people the tribal of India are facing a number of problems among which the following are noted -

1.The problem of Geographic Separation

The tribal of India are in a way of geographical separation from the rest of the population some of them are living in the approachable physical areas such as deep valleys, dense forest, Hills, mountains etc. It is difficult for them to establish relations with others and hence, socially they are far away from the civilized world. This kind of physical as well as social isolation or exclusion has contributed to various other problems.

2.Cultural problems

The tribal culture is entirely different from the way of life of civilized people. The tribal fail to understand the civilized people, their customs and practices, beliefs and attitude and so on. They are suspicious towards civilized people. During British rule some foreign Christian Missionaries made an attempt to propagate their religion in some of their tribal areas, particularly in the North Eastern provinces.

They even try to impose their culture on them. Even today Such an attempt is going on. Some of the tribal leaders have now started popularizing the tribal religion. These different propaganda dances have created a great confusion for them, the cultural gap between the stabilized and the tribal people is coming in the way of assimilation and integration of tribal people into the mainstream of the national life of India.

3. Social problems

The tribal have their own social problems also. they are traditional and custom bounded, they have become the victims of superstitious beliefs, outmoded and meaningless practices and harmful habits. child marriage, infanticide, homicide, animal sacrifice, black magic, and other harmful practices are still found among them. They believe in Ghosts and spirits. They have a keen desire to maintain all these practices in general, and their individual tribal character. Hence, it is said that the tribal are the tribesmen first, the tribesmen last and the tribesmen all the time.

4. Economic problems

The tribal people are economically the poorest people of India. the majority of them live below the poverty line. The tribal economy is based on agriculture of the crudest type. The main economic problems of the tribal are explained below-:
  • Exploitation - The innocents, illiteracy and helplessness of the tribal are exploited by the outsiders. The British policy, in particular, had led to ruthless exploitation of the tribal in various ways as it's favored the zamindars, landlords, money lenders, forest contractors and police officials.
  • An profitable agriculture - About 90% of the tribal are engaged in cultivation and most of them landless and practice shifting cultivation. The need to be helped in adopting new methods of cultivation, the tribal possess economic Holdings because of which that crop yield is very less. A very small percentage of the population participate in occupational activities in the secondary and tertiary sectors .
  • Problems of land ownership - A good portion of the land in the tribal areas has been legally transferred to non-tribal. Tribal demand that the lens should be returned to them. In fact the tribal had earlier employed much freedom to use the forest and hunt the animals.
They are emotionally attached to the forest for their belief that their gods, spirits live in the forest. The tribal who are deprived of their rights to the land and forest have reacted sharply to the restrictions imposed by the government on their traditional rights.

Conclusion

We can derive that because of many problems that are being created by us and faced by the tribal can be one of the reason that why did in tribal interact much with outsiders it is just because we are a threat to their natural habitat that culture and to the religion and in order to interact with them we need to share the emotional bond and respect their culture language understanding and social circle as well.

But we as an individual cannot do all these things rather we need a supporting government who can help improving our interaction and improvising the tribesmen interaction with by imposing certain policies that would not become a threat to any of these two different groups
