Web Series Review: ‘Demon Slayer’ - The New Generation Heroes To See

I always think Shounen stories are just following a similar concept and a basic story line. But still, why do we still watch it, what attracts us to it like a moth to a flame. I think it all depends upon the presentation.

Because we all know that at the end of the day, no matter which character we like, the morally good has to take the victory but how it's presented gets us hooked. Demon Slayer is an anime that ticks all the boxes on the presentation of a story and marks a story of potential.

The World with the Demons

Kimetsu no Yaiba or Demon Slayer is a world where the society still has demons in existence. Anyone who gets bitten by a demon will become one but if you are killed by a demon, then there will be no revival as demons.

And to slash the demons and save humans everywhere, there are demon slayer corps in existence. The demon only roams in the time of darkness, can speak and even disguise among humans but cannot come in sunlight.

Demons hunt humans because they need human blood and flesh to survive. These demons possess magical powers and the demon slayer corps uses ‘breathing techniques’ to kill these creatures. There persists a continuous battle for a long time between the corps and demon.

The twelve strongest demon slayers are called the ‘Hashiras’ and the twelve strongest demons are called ‘moons’ with their leader named Kibutsuji Muzan. Knowing this setup will help you before you begin with the tale of the Tanjiro.

Season Review

The story begins with Tanjiro, who is the eldest of the siblings, going to sell coal in the town. He lived on a hill with his mother and siblings but one day, it was snowing a lot and he had to stay in town for the night.

When he goes back in the morning, horrors struck him as he saw all his family murdered and the bodies and the blood lying around.

Only his sister Nezuko survives who is unconscious but then she turns into a demon and attacks Tanjiro. Even after becoming a demon, she doesn't harm him but a mystery swordsman came and tried to finish her.

Seeing the siblings protect each other made him think they are different from each other and he spared their lives and saved them.

Tanjiro decides to become a demon slayer to find a way to cure Nezuko as she doesn't hurt humans after becoming a demon and might get back to normal. He also wishes to kill the demon who killed his family and go on a journey where he meets many demon slayers and fights many strong enemies.

Characters You Will Love

Tanjiro Kamado - He is the protagonist of the story who lost his family in a demon attack and now tries to become a demon slayer to save his sister. He is what you say, as pure as the sun and clear as the sky, he tries to save everyone, is very kind even to the demons and very strong, a very interesting MC. His story line, character development, and fights are delightful to watch and he is voiced by Natsuki Hanae.

Nezuko - She is the sister of Tanjiro who becomes a demon after a demon attacks their home and kills her family. She doesn't hurt humans even being demons and protects her brother and just sleeps in his brother's casket to survive. She is shown in pain and struggling with her new life and leads the story as everything is done to heal nezuko. She is voiced by Akari Kito.

Zenitsu - He is a demon slayer who is a friend of Tanjiro and meets him in the demon slayer selection exam. He is very scared of demons and every time he is in danger, he goes to sleep but that's when his power awakens and he gets strong in his sleep. He is a simp which makes his character development interesting. He is voiced by Hiro Shimono.

The Bottom Line

Well in the case of Demon slayer, it all burns down to one thing- animation. The ufotable studio is just so good in animation, 3-D effects, CGI and you can get any person hooked on to their show and this is the box of presentations they have aced.

Demon Slayer has currently 26 episodes and a movie recently released which will be reviewed real soon, so hurry up and stream Demon Slayer on Crunchyroll.
